The technology disclosed herein pertains to a method for mobile storage device registration to a management domain using a random token and a pin. In at least one implementation, a technology disclosed herein provides a method of authenticating a device on a system, the method including generating a random token, displaying the random token to a user, communicating the random token to an authentication system portal, in response the authentication system portal validating the random token receiving a PIN from the user, and communicating the PIN to the authentication system portal, and receiving a portal IP address and a certificate of authentication from the authentication system portal.

Device registration to management domain

A method includes importing an object into a first data storage device, obtaining static metadata relating to the object, and obtaining dynamic metadata relating to the importation of the object. The static metadata and the dynamic metadata are hashed to create a block hash for the object and the importation of the object. The imported object and the block hash are stored in the first data storage device.

Apparatus and method for managing devices within a trust boundary of a computer network. In some embodiments, a trust manager circuit uses a first registration authority to authenticate a plurality of processing devices to form a trust group. A new processing device is subsequently added to the group. The trust manager circuit uses a different, second registration authority to provisionally authenticate the new processing device in response to an unavailability of the first registration authority, and grants provisional rights to the new processing device. Once the first registration authority is once again available, the trust manager performs a full authentication of the new processing device and grants full rights to the device.

Provisional authentication of a new device added to an existing trust group

A system includes a storage unit, a trusted time source, a key generation unit, and an encryption unit. The storage unit is configured to store data. The trusted time source provides a correct time responsive to a request. The key generation unit receives a time expiration associated with the data stored on the storage unit. The time expiration indicates when the data stored on the storage unit is to become inaccessible. The key generation unit further receives the correct time from the trusted time source and generates an encryption key based on the correct time and further based on the time expiration. The encryption unit is configured uses the encryption key to encrypt the data stored on the storage unit. A certificate that includes the time expiration and a decryption key associated with the encryption key is generated responsive to the data stored on the storage unit being encrypted.

Data storage using an encryption key with a time expiration associated therewith

A system includes a storage medium enterprise and a processing component. The storage medium enterprise includes a first storage medium configured to store data and a second storage medium configured to store data. The processing component external to the storage medium enterprise is configured to receive and process data received from the storage medium enterprise. The first storage medium is configured to transmit a first operational data associated with the first storage medium to the processing component and the second storage medium is configured to transmit a second operational data associated with the second storage medium to the processing component. The first operational data is formed into a block of a block chain prior to transmission to the processing medium and the second operational data is formed into another block of the block chain prior to transmission to the processing medium.
