A safety device is here described for supporting pedals in motor vehicles, especially passenger cars, with a bracket support arranged in the area of a wall area of a splash wall or bulkhead that is noticeably deformed into a passenger compartment in the event of a vehicle head-on collision, in which bracket support a pedal pivot shaft of at least one swivelling pedal, especially a brake pedal, acting on a push rod is mounted. At the same time the pedal pivot shaft is mounted in the bracket support in a guide extending at least basically horizontally, the guide has limits in each horizontal direction. In addition the pedal pivot shaft in normal operation is fixed in a forward position of the guide, viewed in the forward direction of travel, and the fixing is neutralized in the event of a head-on collision.

Safety device for supporting pedals

In a motor vehicle operating pedal unit with a pedal lever pivotally mounted in a pedal housing and a return spring connected to the pedal lever which is pivotally supported by a bearing sleeve inserted into a bearing bore of the pedal housing, a pedal position sensor unit including a sensor housing having integrally formed therewith a slide cylinder is mounted onto the pedal housing such that the slide cylinder is received within the bearing sleeve. The slide cylinder includes a sensor shaft having an end extending into the sensor housing for cooperation with sensor components determining the angular position of the sensor shaft which is interconnected with the pedal lever for movement together with the pedal lever.

In a motion transmitting device for controlling an internal combustion engine by means of an accelerator pedal wherein a pedal position transmitter mounted on a support bracket includes a control lever mounted for rotation with a drive shaft extending from the pedal position transmitter, a return coil spring is disposed on the control lever coaxially with the drive shaft and has one end engaged with the control lever and the other with the support bracket and a pull member is attached to the control lever for imparting thereto the motion of the accelerator pedal wherein the pull member is so arranged that a pulling force is applied to the control lever along a line which is parallel to the direction of the force applied to the bracket by the coil spring but is in the opposite direction.

In an arrangement for operating a control device of a vehicle by way of a pedal, a pedal lever is pivotally supported by a bearing bolt mounted on a vehicle structure and is biased by a return spring toward its idle end position. A friction element is provided so as to cooperate with the pedal lever and a friction surface on a stationary structure, the friction element being coupled to the return spring and being arranged to provide friction forces upon movement of the pedal lever, which are dependent on the pedal position and which are higher when the pedal lever is moved in a direction away from the idle end position than they are when the pedal lever is moved in the opposite direction.

In a vehicle control pedal unit comprising a mounting structure having a U-shaped mounting end with spaced parallel leg walls between which one end of a pedal lever having an eyepiece with an opening is pivotally supported, a bearing sleeve is disposed between the leg walls and extends through the eyepiece opening and a slide hub extends through the bearing openings in the leg walls and through the bearing sleeve and is interlocked with the bearing sleeve for retaining the bearing sleeve and the lever arm in position between the leg walls of the mounting structure.

In a device for the transmission of motion from an accelerator pedal to a power output control element of an internal combustion engine fitted with an automatic power transmission including a motion transfer lever linked to the accelerator pedal, an operating lever is arranged adjacent to the motion transfer lever such that both are pivotable about the same axis and a kick down spring engages the two levers with one another for movement in unison until the operating lever reaches a full load end position beyond which only the motion transfer lever can be moved against the force of the kickdown spring for engagement with an actuating means for initiating shifting of the transmission.

An actuating linkage for a motor vehicle clutch with a clutch lever which can assume two end positions corresponding to the engaged and the disengaged clutch and at which engages an over-dead-center spring that exerts on the clutch lever a force directed toward a respective end position. In order to reduce the actuating force to be produced by the driver with a strong over-dead-center-point spring, the compensating spring engages at the clutch lever which exerts on the clutch lever a force directed toward the end position corresponding to the disengaged clutch whereby the torque applied on the clutch lever by the compensating spring is smaller with a disengaged clutch than with an engaged clutch.

A device for regulating an internal combustion engine in a motor vehicle is provided with an electrical desired-value transmitter adjustable between an idling position and a full-load position, an actuator, and a regulating member coupled mechanically to the actuator. The set position of the desired-value transmitter is transmissible to the actuator via an electrical transmission circuit via which signals can be entered from further regulating variables; and also to the regulating member via a mechanical transmission member of variable length which can be connected to the desired-value transmitter via a connecting lever. So that this regulating device can be installed with the least possible changes in a vehicle without impairing its emergency running properties and the input of further regulating variables, a drag lever is provided that connects the accelerator pedal to the desired-value transmitter. The connecting lever can be dragged along with the drag lever during the adjustment of the drag lever in the direction of full load. Between the full-load position and the particular position of the drag lever, the connecting lever is adjustable independently of the drag lever. A signal output for activating the power transmission between the internal combustion engine and the vehicle drive is connected to the connecting lever.

Device for regulating an internal combustion engine in a motor vehicle

A linkage for operating a control element of an internal combustion engine is constructed in a manner such that a change in the inclination of the position of the internal combustion engine has no effect, or merely an intentional, minor effect on the relative position of a linkage operated control element for the internal combustion engine. In accordance with a first embodiment, by appropriately dimensioning and positioning a regulating lever along the longitudinal shaft directly operating the control element, rotation of the longitudinal shaft, during inclination of the engine, is matched, or caused to differ by a predetermined amount, so as to maintain a desired relationship between the position of the control element relative to the engine. In accordance with a second embodiment, a resilient elastic element that is torsionally rigid, but otherwise resilient is interconnected with the longitudinal shaft in a manner to cause the rotation of the shaft to match or differ by a predetermined amount from the angle of inclination of the engine so as to maintain the desired positional relationship between the control element and the engine.
