An engine hood for motor vehicles has a deformable head impact zone to protect pedestrians in the event of a collision with the motor vehicle. The engine hood comprises an outer shell, which is formed by the body paneling, and an inner shell which is arranged below the outer shell and is connected to the outer shell. The inner shell is provided with a vault-structured stiffening region in the region of the head impact zone.

A method and a tool are provided for producing structural parts from sheet metal which have a vault-structured stiffening zone and adjacent, flat connection zones. The starting point for producing these structural parts is vault-structured blanks which are smoothed in the region of the connection zones in the course of the forming, whereas the vault structure is retained unchanged in the region of the stiffening zone. These structural parts are produced by an embossing tool which has a die and a two-piece punch including of a fixing punch and a forming punch. In the process, the blank is first of all fixed relative to the fixing punch in the region of the vault-structured stiffening zone by a fixing element which is in a leading position with respect to the die. The connection zones are then shaped between the punch and the forming punch.

A forward structure for a self-supporting body shell of a passenger car has two forward structure side members, with which a function carrier is connected on at least four fastening points in a force-transmitting manner, the function carrier being constructed of two cross member sections and two side member sections. The function carrier is designed as a one-piece cast component. The cross member sections and the side member sections are provided with a U-shaped shell profile which is open in the downward direction. Each side member section is provided with at least one geometrically caused desired deformation area which, in the event of a deformation of the forward structure side member in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, can be additionally plastically deformed.
