A device is for actuating the flaps of an optical waveguide splicer. The device includes a wind protection flap that can be rotated around a first rotational axis between a closed state and an open state, a first holding flap that's is arranged underneath the wind protection flap on a side of a splicing location and can be swiveled around a second rotational axis between a closed state and an open state and a second holding flap that is arranged underneath the wind protection flap on the remaining side of the splicing location and can be swiveled around the second rotational axis. The wind protection flap is provided with a first coupling device via which the first holding flap and/or the second holding flap can be coupled to the movement of the wind protection flap from the closed state into the open state.

In order to fix mutually parallel light-guide ends in a clamping device, it has to be ensured, when using a standard clamping device for different numbers of light-guide ends, that the clamping device is positioned differently depending on the number of light-guide ends. Prior-art apparatuses are of very complex design and are difficult to use. The invention specifies an apparatus which is of straightforward design and in which, depending on the number of light-guide ends which are to be clamped, the clamping devices is fitted in each case in mounts assigned to the number of light-guide ends. The mounts are advantageously arranged here in the form of a centering body which, by rotation through 90&deg; in each case about its longitudinal axis and/or through 180&deg; about a transverse axis perpendicular to said longitudinal axis, is brought into a total of eight different positions. This provides fixedly predetermined mounts for a total of eight different numbers of light-guide ends.

A plug part for a releasable plug-type connection of light waveguides that can be manufactured with little outlay is provided which comprises a capillary having an acceptance opening for the light waveguide, a plug cylinder in which the capillary is disposed such that its acceptance opening is coaxially aligned relative to the outside circumference of the plug cylinder and a hardenable bonding agent which is introduced into the annular gap between the capillary and plug cylinder. The capillary is accepted between two centering tips for the precise adjustment in the plug cylinder. This adjustment ensues in a guide prism in which two cylindrical centering tip carriers with coaxially attached centering tips and the plug cylinder with the capillary loosely contained therein are placed, whereby the two centering tip carriers have the same outside diameter as the plug cylinder.

Optical elements, which are to be connected to one another such as laser diodes, coupling optics and/or optical fibers and plug cylinders, are first secured to weldable adjustment members which are then displaced relative to one another with the coupling faces lying against one another without play until a desired position is reached and then are subsequently secured to each other by at least one spot weld in a region of a part seam formed by edges of the coupling faces by either laser beam welding or electron beam welding with the spot weld being positioned to obtain a high fixing precision and being spaced inwardly from a circle circumscribing the contour of the coupling face. The securing by the spot weld is both stable in time and also climate-resistant. The assembly is particularly suitable for the manufacture of optical transmitter modules and for plug parts of releasable plug connectors of light waveguides.

With the invention, in a bore hole of a spindle two axially displaceable disk-shaped spring plates are arranged which are pressed into respective end positions by springs arranged between them. Centrally to the disk-shaped spring plates a slide is arranged which is selectively coupleable with one of the two spring plates.

A device for partially removing lacquer from a light waveguide characterized by a housing containing a tub or recess for receiving a bath of a lacquer removing substance and a pivotable arm mounted on the housing and movable to a position for holding a portion of the light waveguide immersed in a bath in the tub. The tub or recess has the desired dimensions corresponding to the desired length of the segment to be delacquered and the housing may include a timing device which will indicate the end of the de-lacquering operation. The device preferably includes a reservoir for the substance which has a valve to emit a given amount into the recess and a catch tank for receiving used lacquer removing material.
