The invention relates to a method and a device for exchanging data on the basis of the OPC communications protocol, wherein at least one OPC-ready server is connected parallel to a master OPC server. An OPC client is connected to the master OPC server over a first communications link and to at least one OPC-ready server via at least one second communications link. The OPC client exchanges data over the first communications link and the master OPC server, and over at least the second communications link and at least one OPC-ready server with automatic devices, and evaluates the data transmitted by the master OPC server and at least one OCT-ready server. In the event of failure, the master OPC server is at least partially switched over from the OPC client to at least one OPC-ready server such that the program continues to run smoothly in the same place.

There is described a method for monitoring the functionality of an automation system of a plant comprising at least one main processor, parts of the plant being monitored and controlled using a user software, which is constructed of a number of program modules and which is run on the main processor. When received, this message is used by the co-processor to start a monitoring time. The invention relates to a method and an automated system for determining the processing sequence of function blocks of a technological function. According to said method, a first function block, whose outputs are respectively disconnected or form exclusively one or more output signals of the technological function, is determined. Starting from said first function block, a second function block is sought in the opposite direction to the signal flow direction, whereby the block inputs of said second block are respectively disconnected or receive one or more input signals of the technological function only. A method of drafting a program code of control and instrumentation technology for operating a plant is disclosed using industrial components. The program code, in its graphical representation, comprises a plurality of sub-plans. The program code of the control and instrumentation technology and the industrial components are represented together in a machine-readable technology plan. The sub-plans, especially the functional plans of the individual plane, are automatically generated from the technology plan, and the individual sequences of the program code are generated from the functional plans. The method makes manual drafting or manual correction project planning superfluous.

In this case, it is simultaneously necessary to ensure that only that software code which is not imperatively required for calculating a result for at least one of the unmarked subfunctions is masked out and is therefore not read in.
