Disclosed is a contacting unit, with plug-in card-shaped housing, having a base plate and a cover plate, between which a slit-like plug-in channel opening on one end of the housing is formed to receive a chip card, and which is provided on the other side with a connector strip, in which the plug-in channel is essentially open on both sides over its entire length in the plug-in direction of the chip card, and the base plate and the cover plate are firmly connected to each other only in the area connected to the plug-in channel in the plug-in direction, wherein at least one lateral guide device is arranged on one end on base plate and/or cover plate, which at least partially bounds the plug-in channel.

The invention relates to a contacting unit for a card-type carrier element in electronic component groups with a housing, the contact unit including a bonding pad on one end face, a slot-like slide-in port that joins on the end face opposite the bonding pad, into which the card-type carrier element, especially a chip card in accordance with ISO 7816, can be inserted, and a printed circuit board, arranged in the housing parallel to the slide-in port and electrically connected to the bonding pad, wherein said printed circuit board is equipped on one surface with contact elements for contacting the card-type carrier element, characterized in that said unit is designed in accordance with the PCMCIA Express Card Standard.

A contact unit for a card-shaped carrier element of electronic components is provided. The contact unit includes an insertable card-shaped housing that has a base plate and a cover plate that is congruent to the base plate at least in the transverse direction. Formed between the base plate and the cover plate is a slot-like insertion channel that opens on one side of the housing for accommodating a chip-card. At the opposite side is provided a plug-in strip. Disposed parallel to the insertion channel, in the housing, is a printed circuit board that is electrically connected to the plug-in strip and that is provided on its surface with a contact field for contact with the chip-card. The insertion channel is continuously open on both sides over its entire length in the direction in which the chip-card is inserted. The base plate and the cover plate are securely attached to one another solely in the region adjacent to the insertion channel in the direction of insertion.

An adaptor for connecting a chip card to a PCMCIA-standard computer slot has a housing with a top cover, a separate bottom cover, and at least one intermediate insulative element or frame connecting the top cover to the bottom cover at a spacing to one another. The top cover and bottom cover have substantially congruent outer contours. The housing has a receiving channel. A printed circuit board is mounted in the housing and extends parallel to the receiving channel. The circuit board has contact elements for electrically contacting a chip card received in the receiving channel. The housing has a front face and a back face wherein the front face has an insertion slot communicating with the receiving channel. The back face has a contact plug electrically connected to the printed circuit board and adapted to electrically contact the PCMCIA-standard computer slot. Cams at the channel entrance are used for card retention. The intermediate element is formed of plural parts which are joined by pins fitted into holes and which are molded about tabs that extend from the covers.

Adaptor for connecting a chip card to a computer slot

A method for manufacturing elastic strips, pin holders, and plug-in connectors includes the step of extruding a continuous profiled plastic member having a profile matching the desired geometry of a plug-in connector and storing the continuous profiled plastic member. The continuous profiled plastic member is then provided with cutouts in areas where cutouts cannot be produced by extrusion. Subsequently, electrical contacts are mounted on the continuous profiled plastic member. This continuous profiled plastic member is then again stored. The continuous profiled plastic member is then cut to length to form a connector blank having a desired number of electrical contacts and a guide contour is then formed at the connector blank.

PC card adapter

A contacting unit has a housing consisting of a base plate and a cover plate with a plastic frame. A printed circuit board, having a strip plug for contacting a computer slot and a contact field for contacting a chip card, is mounted between cover plate and base plate that such between the printed circuit board and the base plate an insertion channel is defined and such that the strip plug is located at a first narrow side of the housing. The printed circuit board is secured by the plastic frame. The insertion channel has an insertion guide located at the opposite narrow housing side. The base plate and the cover plate are separate stamped sheet metal parts, and at least the longitudinal edges have inwardly bent tabs. The base plate has plastic holders for securing opposite ends of the strip plug. The insertion guide is a profiled plastic member having a length matching the length of the narrow side. It is connected to the base plate and has an insertion slot allowing passage of a chip card into the insertion channel. The profiled plastic member has a platform projecting into the housing and providing a support surface for the printed circuit board. The plastic holders and the profiled plastic member are injection molded onto the tabs of the base plate. The plastic frame is injection-molded to the tabs of the cover plate. The cover plate and the base plate are fastened to one another by an adhesive, ultrasound welding or hot-pressing.

A chip card contacting unit has a housing and a printed circuit board mounted in the housing. The printed circuit board has contacts for contacting electrically and mechanically a contact array of a chip card received in the housing. A switch is mounted in the housing. The switch has a stop limiting insertion of the chip card into the housing. A guide member guides the chip card during insertion and acts on the side of the chip card opposite the contact array to ensure correct positioning of the contact array at the contacts by providing an abutment.

The printed ciruit board is mounted in the housing. It is electrically connected to the plug-in contact. A first one of the longitudinal sides has an open portion adjacent to the first end face. A second one of the longitudinal sides has an opening allowing insertion of the card-shape support into the housing in a plane of the housing and angled to the longitudinal sides.

A contacting unit for a card-shaped carrier element of electronic components has a housing with a base plate and a contact field provided at a side of the housing leading when inserted into a computing device. A PCMCIA card is placed into the housing parallel to the base plate such that between the base plate and the PCMCIA card an insertion channel for a chip card is formed. The housing has an insertion slot for inserting a chip card into the insertion channel. The insertion slot is arranged opposite the contact field. Contact elements are connected to a face of the PCMCIA card for contacting the chip card inserted into the insertion channel. An insertion guide surrounds the insertion slot. The insertion guide has lateral cover portions extending to the leading side of the housing. Abutments are connected to the housing in the vicinity of the contact field for limiting an insertion depth of the chip card into the insertion channel. The abutments are positioned so as to cooperate with corners of the leading edge of the chip card. The abutments have a contour slant or a contour radius matching the contour slant or contour radius of the corners of the leading edge of the chip card.
