A brake system for automotive vehicles with electric drive is operable by an actuating pedal and uses hydraulic friction brakes to augment the braking effect generated by the electric drive motors. The coaction of the drive motors with the hydraulic friction brakes is controlled by an electronic controller. In order to largely conform the pedal characteristics of the mentioned brake system to that of a standard passenger car, an actuating pedal (5) is in force-transmitting and travel-transmitting connection with a spring (8) exhibiting a predetermined characteristic curve, and the master brake cylinder (11), uncoupled from the actuating pedal (5), is operable by an electromagnet (9) which is responsive to the controller (70). If the master brake cylinder accommodates two pressure cheers, a single valve is arranged in or on the master cylinder housing, and acts as both a bypass valve and a differential-pressure valve.

An anti-skid-controlled hydraulic brake system is described where the pressure medium, bled off from the wheel brakes for the purpose of pressure control, is replaced from a storage reservoir. The pressure medium will be delivered by a pump to the wheel brakes, and also into the master brake cylinder. As a result, during brake slip control, the volume requirements of the wheel brakes partially are met from the master brake cylinder. Directly involved is a pedal pulsation. So as to attenuate the pulsation, a throttling unit is inserted into the line between the pump and the master brake cylinder. A simple embodiment includes an orifice inserted between the pump and master brake cylinder.

A brake system with anti-lock control and/or traction slip control is disclosed including a hydraulic braking pressure generator, a central plunger system, separating valves between the braking pressure generator and the plunger system as well as wheel valves. Further, there is provided an electronic controller which serves to modulate during a control action the braking pressure in the wheel brakes by actuation of the central plunger system and the wheel valves according to the so-termed Multiplex method. The system includes a braking pressure modulator substantially composed of the plunger system, an electric drive motor which is coupled to the plunger system by a single or double unit of planets and a worm drive.

In a traction slip-controlled brake system for automotive vehicles, comprising an auxiliary pressure source and a pedal-operated brake valve through which pressure fluid from the auxiliary pressure source can be applied to the wheel brakes. A first valve switchable from a locking position into a passage position is switched into a pressure fluid conduit leading from the auxiliary pressure source to the wheel brakes of the one motor vehicle axle, and a second valve is switched into the brake conduit connecting the wheel brakes of the said motor vehicle axle to the brake valve. The said second valve can switch over from a passage position into a locking position. Moreover, a check valve is provided in the line section connecting the first valve to the wheel brakes of the one motor vehicle axle, with the said check valve precluding a flow back of pressure from the wheel brakes to the first valve. An additional third valve is provided in a line connecting this line branch to the return line which valve, in non-excited condition, for safety reasons, will then open the communication with the pressure fluid reservoir.

Traction-slip-controlled brake system for automotive vehicles

A vehicular hydraulic brake system with an anti-locking arrangement, wherein first valve devices (10, 16, 17, 20, 27, 28, 29, 30) are interposed between a master cylinder (3) and brake-actuating member (11, 12, 13, 14) which valve allow interruption of the supply of pressure fluid to the brake-actuating members (11, 12, 13, 14) and to removal of pressure fluid from brake-actuating members (11, 12, 13, 14). The first valve devices (10, 16, 17, 20, 27, 28, 29, 30) are controllable by a slip-monitoring electronics (18) as a function of the wheel rotational behavior, and provision is made of a device for ensuring availability of a minimum stroke of the master cylinder (3) as a reserve. A shut-off valve (9, 15) is interposed between the master cylinder (3) and the first valve devices (10, 16, 17, 20, 27, 28, 29, 30), and the connection between shut-off valve (9, 15) and the first valve devices is connectible by way of second valve (24, 25) to an auxiliary pressure source (22) which supplies pressure proportional to the pedal force (F).

For the control of a brake-slip controlled brake system the brake pedal force assisted by auxiliary force is transmitted onto a master cylinder (10, 10', 33) and from said onto the wheel brake cylinders via several pressure fluid paths that are adapted to be closed independently of one another. The wheel rotational behavior and the vehicle velocity will be measured with sensors (S1 through S4), the signals will be logically combined, and therefrom control signals will be generated for electromagnetically actuatable directional control valves (15, 16, 17, 19, 35, 36, 37, 42, 43, 52). During control action, the pedal force (F) that is directed to the master cylinder and assisted by auxiliary force will be compensated temporarily by an opposed force, as a result whereof the pressure rise in the master cylinder will be retarded or pressure will even be decreased. During the phase of reduced pressure in the master cylinder, the switching position of the directional control valve (15, 16, 17, 35, 36, 42, 43) which are inserted in the pressure fluid lines (24, 24', 25, 25') leading to the wheel brake cylinders will arrange for the pressure in the wheel brake cylinders to be either maintained constant due to line closure, or to be reduced to the level desired by causing pressure fluid to discharge to the master cylinder (10, 10', 33) through the directional control valves switched to open passage.

For the control of a brake unit for automotive vehicles, electric signals are generated dependent on the operation of the brake pedal. The signals are processed in an electronic circuit (8) and logically linked to sensor signals containing information on the brake power, the braking effect and/or on the rotational behavior of the individual wheels. Electrically actuatable wheel brakes (1, 2, 3, 4, 32, 33) equipped with an electric drive (M) are controlled by the generated signals. Through a second brake system, brake power is transmitted by the brake pedal (5, 5') either simultaneously or upon overcoming a threshold value to the wheels of one axle, preferably to the front wheels, i.e. front right, front left wheels (VR, VL), the brake power becoming, however, effective exclusively in the event of a fault or a failure of the electrical brake system or of the electric power supply.

In a brake-slip controlled brake system for automotive vehicles, each one front wheel and one rear wheel are assigned to one joint braking pressure control channel (6, 8; 7, 9). Sensors (S.sub.1 -S.sub.4) for determining the wheel rotational behavior are disposed at all wheels. After their electronic combination and processing, the sensor signals serve to govern braking pressure modulators, e.g. solenoid switching valves (6-9). In the presence of sufficient friction of the front wheels (V.sub.R, V.sub.L), brake slip control is dependent on the rotational behavior of the front wheels. In the event of too low friction, brake slip control is switched over to the rear wheels (H.sub.R, H.sub.L), preferably to the rear wheel having least deceleration which thereby takes the lead as regards the control of the further braking pressure variation.
