A monitoring camera apparatus, having a camera for recording a monitoring region with at least one object from a recording position of the camera. The apparatus also includes an actuator for changing the recording position of the camera and a control device for driving the actuator and the camera. A first image is recordable in a first recording position of the camera, and a second image is recordable in a second recording position of the camera. The first and second images show at least one identical subsection with the at least one object of the monitoring region as a common subsection. An evaluation device for evaluating the images of the camera is configured to determine depth information concerning the at least one object in the common subsection from the first and second images.

A transcoder device. The transcoder device includes an input portion for receiving at least two encoded camera image streams and for decoding the at least two encoded camera image streams, the two camera image streams displaying different sub-sections of a monitored region, an output portion for encoding a video image stream and for outputting the encoded video image stream, and a processing portion for generating the video image stream on the basis of the at least two camera image streams. The video image stream displays a selecting portion of the monitored region, the selecting portionincluding a sub-region of the one sub-section of the monitored region and a sub-region of the other sub-section of the monitored region which does not overlap the former sub-region.

In the present digital age, the storage of data and the administration of the stored data is a problem area which, despite rapidly dropping prices for storage media, is increasingly important as technology becomes more sophisticated. In the field of security technology, for instance, storing streams of video data or compressed streams of video data that are recorded by surveillance cameras plays an important role. Some of the streams of video data stored should be stored for a defined length of time, such as a few days, while some data should be stored permanently, and there is accordingly a need for a highly flexible solution to the problem. A video recording system for recording video data, a method for memory space distribution in the video recording system, and a computer program for this purpose are proposed.

A camera is described having an image capturing device, an evaluation and control unit and a storage unit, the evaluation and control unit analyzes an image sequence having at least two successively captured images recorded by the image capturing device to segment and stabilize at least one object to be recorded during the image recording. The evaluation and control unit ascertains a deliberate panning movement of the camera and compares it with ascertained movements of objects represented in the captured images, the evaluation and control unit determining at least one object as an object to be recorded, the ascertained movement of which is most consistent with the camera's ascertained panning movement, and the evaluation and control unit storing an image section of the image captured by the image capturing device in the storage unit which represents the at least one object to be recorded. Also described is a corresponding method.
