A nebulizer which is a metered dose inhaler for use in administering medicaments with an associated does counter, which can, by way of a guide track or inclined plane and an associated guide element, cause an axial movement occurring on actuation of the nebulizer to be partly converted into a rotary movement for driving a counting ring, which can count both complete and incomplete actuations.

An inhaler () is proposed (see FIG.), for the inhalation of a formulation () from capsules () that each contain one dose of the formulation. The capsules are preferably each emptied in a capsule chamber () by being set in motion by a stream of air flowing through the capsule chamber. The stream of air can be generated by the inhalation of a user or patient and/or can be generated actively generated by the inhaler. For simple handling, the inhaler has a means for, in particular, automatic filling, emptying and/or cleaning of the capsule chamber, if the latter is used more than once. Alternatively, the inhaler has a large number of capsule chambers that each preferably already contain a capsule and re preferably used just once.

The invention relates to a hand-held device (), as depicted in exemplary FIG., for metered dispensing of sprayable substances, particularly medicaments for inhalation, with a cartridge () that can be moved into the dispensing position, by pressure being applied to a housing, and with a step-by-step indexing mechanism () which is entrained by the cartridge () in the opening travel thereof and which is used to record and display the dispensing actuations that have been performed. In order to suitably design a hand-held device of the type in question with a simplified structure, in such a way that the indexing steps can be performed smoothly and safely without connection to the cartridge, it is proposed that slits () extend obliquely only over part of the travel of the step-by-step indexing mechanism housing () and that the guide pins () guided therein move, over the remainder of the travel of the step-by-step indexing mechanism (), parallel to the longitudinal axis (x-x) of the step-by-step indexing mechanism.

Inhaler device

The present invention relates to capsules for holding pharmaceutical preparations for powder inhalers with increased drug safety and capsules for pharmaceutical preparations for powder inhalers with improved adaptation to their use in powder inhalers. The capsules consist of water-insoluble hydrophobic synthetic materials which do not significantly affect the pharmaceutical quality of the contents themselves, but which improve the usability of the filled capsules with regard to their function, their longevity, and/or the geographic location of their use, and are advantageous at various stages from manufacture up to utilization.

The invention relates to a powder inhaler () with mouthpiece () for dispersing pharmaceutical medicament formulations, which comprises an auxiliary energy source in the form of a pressure medium system (), having a device for supplying () a powder formulation (), while on activation of the pressure medium system a gaseous pressure medium () released by the pressure medium system () forms an aerosol () with the powder formulation () such that the powder particles are present in the gaseous pressure medium () in dispersed form. This is achieved by means of a powder inhaler () comprising a multi-channel nozzle, the channels of which are inclined to one another at an angle such that the aerosol jets flowing through them meet one another downstream behind the nozzle ().

A cartridge for propellant-free administration of a liquid pharmaceutical composition by inhalation includes: an elongate displacing device including an upper end and a lower end, the lower end for at least partial insertion into a container; a cartridge chamber disposed at the lower end of the displacing device and operable store a pharmaceutical formulation, the cartridge chamber including at least one pierceably sealed opening; and a cannula guide extending from the upper end of the displacing device to the cartridge chamber, wherein insertion of a cannula through the guide pierces the sealed opening and releases the pharmaceutical formulation into a liquid solvent in the container to form the liquid pharmaceutical composition.

Two-chamber cartridge for propellant-free metering aerosols

Foil bags are used as a primary packaging for liquids, the bags permitting the liquid to be taken therefrom without the application of a considerable amount of force. A container is provided for a medicinal liquid, the container being gas-tight and liquid-tight so that it is storable over many months. The container includes a collapsible foil bag on which a flange, which is stable in respect of shape, is disposed. The flange is designed for fitting onto a discharge connection member. The container can be disposed in a casing which is stable in respect of shape. The medicinal liquid does not come into contact with air and is protected from the effect of light. The medicinal liquid may be dispensed from the foil bag in many partial quantities over a prolonged period of time, with a respective partial amount thereof being converted into an aerosol by means of an atomizer.

For meteredly dispensing a liquid over a period of several months from a container which can be stored over a long period of time, the need is for a container which is practically diffusion-tight and in which the liquid does not come into contact with the ambient atmosphere. The cartridge according to the invention is a three-shell container comprising a collapsible bag which contains the liquid, a container which is stable in respect of shape and a stiff metal casing. The cartridge can be releasably connected to a dispensing device. The cartridge can be provided with a micro-opening with which the time for pressure equalisation between the cartridge and the ambient atmosphere can be adjusted. The cartridge is suitable for aqueous and for alcoholic liquids which contain a pharmaceutically active substance. The liquid in the cartridge is protected from external influences. The cartridge can be used in an atomiser for producing an inhalable aerosol for the treatment of illnesses.

A dry powder inhaler () is to be made available, with which a particle size and particle size distribution preferred for inhalation are to be achieved and by means of which as high a line particle fraction as possible is to be realized. This is achieved by means of a dry powder inhaler () that is characterized in that provided in the inhaler () is a nozzle () through which the aerosol () flows before leaving the inhaler ().

The invention relates to a nozzle system for a delivery device for liquids, wherein the nozzle system comprises a nozzle and a device which fixes the nozzle in the delivery device. The delivery device, an atomizer, has a liquid reservoir from which a liquid is forced through the nozzle under pressure. The nozzle fixing means may itself be secured by a second fixing, e.g., in the form of a check nut, or the fixing may itself be a check nut. According to the invention the fixing means on the nozzle outlet side has a specific geometry which minimizes the proportion of dispensed liquid deposited on the fixing means. Preferably, the present invention is part of a propellant-free device for nebulizing pharmaceutical liquids.

The measurement of the particle size distribution of an aerosol is of crucial importance in pharmaceutical development. A prerequisite for this is a valid method, e.g. the cascade impactor method described in the pharmacopoeias. It requires measurement of the active substance concentration in order to determine the particle size distribution. The invention provides a process which makes it possible to measure the size of aerosol droplets containing pharmaceutical substances which are unstable in the event of changes in the pH.
