To avoid edge effects and local variations of differences in transducers across zones of material to be printed from which print control signals are to be derived, for example to control the localized or zone adjustment positions of a flexible doctor blade with respect to an ink ductor roller in an offset printing machine, a first standard sample providing, for example, white signals, is first scanned, then a standard sample, providing for example totally inked zones, is scanned, and then the actual printing sample. From each of the scannings, signals are derived with respect to print zones, for example columns in a newpaper layout, the signals being compared to form a difference or comparison signal from the first two standards (light and dark) in the respective zones, which difference signal is stored, with respect to the respective zones, in a file memory (11); this difference signal then is compared with processed transduced signals derived from the actual text to be printed, for conversion into output signals for display, storage or control of the printing machines in accordance with the respective ink coverage of the zones which were scanned.

Zonal ink distribution measuring method and system

A coupling bearing for rotors running above critical speed, in which the bearing encloses the rotor and is connected and disconnected depending on radial rotor movements. A gap is provided between the coupling bearing and the rotor, and this gap has a predetermined space width which is at least as large as the maximum amplitude of the rotor in the nominal operating range. A starting bushing permits brief sliding of contacting surfaces, and is made of a highly wear-resistant and self-lubricating material of low heat conductivity. The starting bushing, furthermore is ball bearing mounted. The coupling bearing is in the form of a ball bearing connected with a damping device, and the inner race of the ball bearing seats the starting bushing. The inner race and the balls of the bearing are made of material of low specific gravity, high heat conductivity and high temperature resistance. The inner and outer races of the ball bearing, moreover, are made of light-weight material containing a temperature-resistant lubricant, and the outer race of the ball bearing is contained in a damper body of high heat conductivity.

Coupling bearing for rotors above critical speed

A containing bearing for supercritical rotors surrounding the rotor and operating to stabilize the rotor in the presence of radial rotor vibrations. A gap is present between the containing bearing and the rotor and is of a size equal to or larger than the maximum amplitude of vibration of the rotor in normal operation. An outer race of the containing bearing is supported by an oblong, resilient sleeve which extends coaxially to and in extension of the rotor which at its far end is fixed to prevent rotation.

Containing bearing for supercritical rotors

Damping restraining bearing for supercritically operating rotors encompassing the rotor with a predetermined gap. The restraining bearing is actuated or deactivated responsive to radial rotor movements. The restraining bearing includes a damping member which is coupled to a damping bearing arranged at one end of the rotor for centering of the rotor.
