The present invention relates to an optically variable security element for protecting articles against counterfeiting, to a process for the production of a security element of this type, and to the use thereof.

Optically variable security element

The invention relates to a pigment mixture consisting of at least two constituents, constituent A being uncoated, monocoated or multicoated glass lamellae, and constituent B being nacreous pigments based on phyllosilicates, SiOlamellae, FeOlamellae or AlOlamellae. The invention also relates to the use of said pigment mixture, inter alia, in paints, dyes, especially printing inks, plastics, powder paints, pastes and cosmetic formulations.

The invention relates to an infrared-reflective material which comprises a transparent sheet material which comprises, on a part-area, an interference pigment which has higher transmission in the visible region of global radiation than in the NIR region, to a method for screening an enclosed area against infrared light, and to the use of the infrared-reflective material for buildings, vehicles and greenhouses while simultaneously maintaining the ability of the human eye to see through the material.

The invention relates to interference pigments with a great color strength that are based on multicoated platelet-shaped substrates that have at least one series of layers from (A) a highly refractive coating that consists of a mixture of TiO and Fe O in ratio of 1:0.1 to 1:5 and optionally one or more metal oxides in amounts of &lE;20% by weight based on layer (A), (B) a colorless coating with a refractive index n&lE;1.8, (C) a colorless coating with a refractive index of n 1.8, (D) an absorptive coating with a refractive index of n 1.8, and optionally (E) an outer protective layer.
