A cooling fluid metering system for a turbine blade of a gas turbine engine is disclosed. The cooling fluid metering system may include a cooling channel positioned between a root of a turbine blade and an offset rotor sealing plate for supplying cooling fluids to turbine blades. At one point, a portion of the cooling channel may include a gap between the root and the offset rotor sealing plate. The gap may be sealed with teardrop shaped seal positioned within a teardrop shaped cavity at the gap. The cavity and seal may be positioned such that during operation, the seal is forced radially outward and into the gap, thereby effectively metering cooling fluid flow through the cooling channel.

An arrangement is presented for axially securing rotating blades in a rotor, having a shaft collar on whose external circumference rotating blade securing grooves which extend in the axial direction of the rotor are provided. At one end side face of the shaft a projection is arranged in the region of the securing grooves, in which projection a circumferential groove which is open radially towards the outside is provided and said projection having securing grooves which are arranged in each rotating bade, sheet-metal-shaped sealing elements which each engage in the circumferential groove and in the securing groove and form an end side sealing ring in the circumferential direction being provided for axially securing the rotating blades, and at least one of the sealing elements comprising a sheet metal strip which is attached to said sealing ring in order to secure the sealing elements against displacement in the circumferential direction.

A seal plate assembly is provided in a rotor disc for a turbine engine. The seal plate assembly includes a radially extending flange on the disc and an annular groove defined between a radial surface on the flange and a face of the disc. An annular outer surface extends axially in facing relationship to an annular inner surface of the groove. A plate structure is supported between the inner and outer surfaces, and a lock structure is provided for holding the plate structure in place. The lock structure includes an axial leg that is adapted to be located between an inner edge of the plate structure and the inner surface of the groove, and the lock structure further includes a radial leg that is adapted to be located between the radial surface on the flange and an outwardly facing surface of the plate structure.

Turbine seal plate locking system

A system and method for extending seal life and for reducing leakage flow in a turbine engine is directed to an interface defined between a stationary component and a rotating component. A seal, which can be a flexible seal such as a brush seal, can be operatively attached to the stationary component. The rotating component has a first region at a first radius relative to the axis of rotation that transitions into a second region at a second, larger radius relative to the axis of rotation. In one embodiment, the rotating component can be selectively axially moved between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the seal is disposed over the first region so as to define a clearance. In the second position, the seal is disposed over the second region so as to decrease the size of the clearance.
