A method for making recesses in the surface of a roller for a rolling press. A thermal treatment is applied to a cylindrical roller surface by heating the surface in a region of the desired recesses until the material properties of the roller surface change permanently, i.e., even after cooling, with respect to the hardness of the roller material. The thermally treated regions produce a softer material in those regions than in the surrounding surface of the roller. By virture of a first start-up of the rolling press with abrasive material to be comminuted, the desired profiling is formed spontaneously due to a wearing down of the soft regions to form the desired recesses. The thermal treatment represent a particularly simple and cost-effective method for profiling rolling rollers, and in particular, rolling rollers which have already become worn, which that thereby be readily refurbished.

A method for regulating the roll gap pressure of a roller press and a corresponding roller press. The roll gap pressure is regulated dependent on at least one oscillating movement that is measured on the roller press. This has the advantage that the roller press can always be operated at the maximum roller press efficiency without the roller press reaching the overload range.

A method for the production of an annular casing for the press rollers of roller presses for the pressure comminution of particulate material, the outer surface of which casing always has a high degree of hardness and consequently a high wear-resisting capability, but the radially inner region of which casing has a lower degree of hardness to avoid casing ruptures. The annular casing is cast of nodular cast iron with at least the alloying elements Ni and Mo. The cast body is given a bainitic structure with residual austenite by a subsequent heat treatment followed by controlled cooling. The outer surface is constantly re-hardened during use via pressure loading such that martensite is constantly formed in boundary layers of the outer surface.

An annular casing for the press rollers of roller presses for the pressure comminution of particulate material, the outer surface of which casing always has a high degree of hardness and consequently a high wear-resisting capability, but the radially inner region of which casing has a lower degree of hardness to avoid casing ruptures, it is proposed according to the invention that the material of the casing consists of nodular cast iron with at least the alloying elements Ni and Mo and with a bainitic structure with residual austenite, and in that, to achieve a self-hardening surface, the boundary layer of the annular casing&#x2014;contains martensite, which is constantly renewed by external pressure loading of the casing surface when the press roller is in operation.

The aim of the invention is to provide grinding rolls in particular for high-pressure roller mills or rolling presses for pressure grinding a granular material not only with a wear-resistant coating but also with a face armour plating in the area of the roller annular edge, which has a long service life due to the high wear resistance thereof and whose production and repair are, in general, relatively simple and inexpensive. For this purpose, the inventive face armour plating consists of a plurality of prefabricated hard bodies which are circularly arranged side by side in such a way that the circular face edge of the roller is formed, said hard bodies are disposed on said circular shoulder of a roll shell such that said hard bodies are placed axially and radially against said circular shoulder of the roll shell and are movably assembled with the roll shell.
