A distance measuring device has at least one oscillator () which produces a basic signal at a fundamental frequency (f) and a first circuit device () which produces a first signal at a first frequency (f) which is higher than the fundamental frequency (f). The first circuit device () has at least one PLL circuit () and one VCO circuit ().

The invention is based on a laser range finder that has a transmitter unit () with at least one laser, a receiver unit (), and a single sideband modulation unit () that can use a first single sideband modulation frequency (ZF) generated by an oscillator unit () and a carrier frequency (T) to generate a modulation frequency (S) of the transmitter unit (). According to the invention, the oscillator unit () can generate at least one additional frequency (ZF) and the single sideband modulation unit () can use the additional frequency (ZF) to generate a demodulation frequency (S) of the receiver unit ().

An auxiliary housing for holding a distance measuring device has a housing part which forms a receptacle for insertion of the distance measuring device, a threaded bushing for mounting the housing part on a tripod, the threaded bushing having a longitudinal axis which coincides with an abutment surface operating as a reference surface for a hand-guided measuring process when the distance measuring device is inserted in the housing part.
