An antenna module is provided which is mountable on a surface of a printed circuit board which contains an electrically conductive layer that constitutes a ground plane for the antenna module. The antenna module is embodied as a planar body having a top surface and a bottom surface, wherein the bottom surface is configured to be mounted on the printed circuit board and the top surface is facing away from the bottom surface. The planar body is a layered structure comprising a central planar layer, a first circuitry, a second circuitry, and a plurality of vias. The antenna module is an electrically active component and the first circuitry includes a feeding strip of electrically conductive material that is connected to at least some of the vias.
