Techniques are provided for radio frequency (RF) sensing using a single wireless device. An example method for determining a distance to an object with radio frequency sensing includes transmitting a radio frequency signal with a transmit channel on a wireless device, receiving a leakage signal with a receive channel on the wireless device at a first time, such that the leakage signal is based on the radio frequency signal, receiving a reflected signal with the receive channel on the wireless device at a second time, such that the reflected signal is based on the radio frequency signal reflecting from the object, and determining the distance to the object based at least in part on a difference between the first time and the second time.

Radio frequency sensing using a single device based on concurrent transmit and receive

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a wireless device may perform a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure for a narrowband communication that provides time and frequency synchronization and/or scheduling information for an ultra-wideband (UWB) communication. The wireless device may transmit the narrowband communication in response to the LBT procedure being successful. The wireless device may transmit the UWB communication based at least in part on the time and frequency synchronization and/or scheduling information. Numerous other aspects are described.

Narrowband communication for ultra-wideband communication

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for encoding data for wireless communication to achieve a desired amplitude distribution. Some implementations more specifically relate to performing an encoding operation to shape the amplitudes of the resultant symbols such that the amplitudes have a non-uniform distribution. In some implementations of the non-uniform distribution, the probabilities associated with the respective amplitudes generally increase with decreasing amplitude. Some implementations enable the tracking of MPDU boundaries to facilitate successful decoding by a receiving device. Additionally or alternatively, some implementations enable the determination of a packet length after performing the amplitude shaping, which enables a transmitting device to determine the number of padding bits to add to the payload and to signal the packet length to a receiving device so that the receiving device may determine the duration of the packet.

Probabilistic amplitude shaping

Aspects relate to outputting a training field signal and/or obtaining a training field signal over multiple radio frequency (RF) sub-bands. For example, a carrier bandwidth used by a first apparatus to transmit packets may include several RF sub-bands. The first apparatus may use two or more of these RF sub-bands to transmit a training field signal. In some examples, the first apparatus may repeat the same training field signal over multiple RF sub-bands. In some examples, the second apparatus may combine the training field signal sent over the multiple RF sub-bands.

Packet detection across sub-bands

This disclosure provides methods, components, devices and systems for low-density parity check (LDPC) coding. Some aspects more specifically relate to extending LDPC codewords to produce longer codewords. In some examples, a first wireless device may generate a baseline LDPC code by performing a first lifting on a base matrix, which may produce an LDPC code used for a current Wi-Fi implementation. The first wireless device may then perform a second lifting or a re-lifting (such as a cyclic lifting, a product lifting, a swapping lifting, or a combination thereof) to generate an extended lifted code. This extended lifted code may be an extension of the first LDPC code such that the first LDPC code may be preserved as part of the extended code. Then first wireless device may then transmit the extended LDPC code as an extended or lifted codeword.

Extending low-density parity check (LDPC) codes for Wi-Fi

This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatuses, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for determining one or more tone sequences (for example, for wake-up procedures). In one aspect, an access point (AP) may wake a mobile station (STA) from a low power mode using a wake-up packet, where an ON symbol of the wake-up packet is modulated using a tone sequence. To reduce the likelihood of a STA falsely identifying the ON symbol as a packet preamble, the AP may implement a tone sequence that satisfies a correlation metric threshold. For example, for a set of candidate tone sequences, each tone sequence may be associated with a correlation metric and peak-to-average-power ratio (PAPR) coordinate pair, and the tone sequence for modulating the ON symbol of the wake-up packet may be selected from a lower convex hull of the coordinate pairs.

Determining a tone sequence for wake-up procedures

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for encoding data for wireless transmissions. In one aspect, a wireless device may encode a number (M) of systematic bits for transmission to a receiving device. The systematic bits may be encoded using a low-density parity-check (LDPC) code to produce an LDPC codeword. The LDPC codeword may include a number (N) of codeword bits, including the M systematic bits and one or more parity bits. The wireless device may further puncture a number (K) of the codeword bits to produce a punctured codeword having a code rate M/(N&#x2212;K)&#x3e;5/6. The wireless device may transmit the N&#x2212;K remaining codeword bits, over a wireless channel, to a receiving device.

Rate 7/8 low-density parity-check (LDPC) code

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for encoding data in wireless communications. Some implementations more specifically relate to performing a first encoding operation on data bits of a code block to shape the amplitudes of the resultant symbols such that the amplitudes have a non-uniform distribution. In some aspects, the probabilities associated with the respective amplitudes generally increase with decreasing amplitude. For example, the non-uniform distribution of the amplitudes of the symbols may be approximately Gaussian. In some aspects, the first encoding operation is or includes a prefix encoding operation having an effective coding rate greater than 0.94 but less than 1. The first encoding operation is followed by a second encoding operation that also adds redundancy but does not alter the data bits themselves. In some aspects, the second encoding operation is or includes a low-density parity-check (LDPC) encoding operation associated with a coding rate greater than 5/6.

This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-readable media, for implementing a retransmission protocol in a wireless local area network (WLAN). The retransmission protocol enables a sending station (STA) to communicate additional parity bits associated with an original transmission that included forward error correction (FEC) encoded codewords. Several techniques are described for a receiving STA to indicate which portions of the original transmission was not properly received. The receiving STA may store the original transmission for use with additional parity bits in a subsequent transmission. The sending STA may communicate the additional parity bits in a subsequent transmission to assist the receiving STA recover the data from the original transmission.

Retransmission protocol based on forward error correction codewords

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. An access point (AP) may identify a sequence of on symbols and off symbols for transmission to a wake-up radio (WUR) of a wireless device. The AP may assign a modulation symbol from a set of possible modulation symbol waveforms to at least each on symbol in the sequence. The modulation symbol waveforms may be assigned to sequential on symbols in a random or pseudorandom order, e.g., by applying a random phase rotation to a stored modulation symbol waveform, by applying a random cyclic shift to a stored modulation symbol waveform, or by applying a random or pseudorandom phase-shift keying value to each subcarrier in a multicarrier system to generate a modulation symbol waveform. The AP may transmit the sequence to the WUR based at least in part on the assigned modulation symbol waveforms.

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for identifying wake-up signals. Some implementations more specifically relate to PHY preamble designs for wake-up signals such as Wake-Up Radio (WUR) packets conforming to IEEE 802.11ba. In some implementations, the preamble designs can include a combination of modulation schemes, data rate indications and length indications enabling devices capable of receiving and decoding wake-up signals to identify the signals as wake-up signals (for example, WUR packets), while ensuring that devices not capable of receiving and decoding wake-up signals identify the wake-up signals as legacy packets, or otherwise not WUR packets.

This disclosure provides methods, apparatuses, wireless nodes, and computer-readable mediums for wireless communications. In one aspect, a method is provide for a Barker-modulated waveform with constant envelope for a wireless local area network (WLAN) signal. A method that may be performed by a transmitter device includes generating a Barker-modulated signal having a constant envelope and transmitting the Barker-modulated signal in a WLAN.

Apparatuses and methods for correcting a distorted signal at a receiver device during wireless local area network (WLAN) communications are disclosed. The apparatuses and methods include receiving, by a receiver device in a WLAN, a distorted signal corresponding to a data packet signal transmitted from a transmitter device, receiving, by the receiver device, one or more transmitter parameters corresponding to the transmission of the data packet signal, the one or more transmitter parameters including information to adjust the distorted signal, and adjusting, by the receiver device, the distorted signal to reconstruct the data packet signal based at least on the one or more transmitter parameters.
