An example switch in accordance with the present disclosure is to process a command to determine desired identification information; generate a link layer discovery protocol (LLDP) frame based at least in part on the desired identification information, wherein the LLDP frame comprises an optional type-length-value (TLV) that causes a second switch to enable a light source; and transmit the LLDP to the second switch.

An apparatus comprises a shipping box containing an access area and a configurable electronic device. The configurable electronic device comprises an electrical connector accessible via the access area on the shipping box. The configurable electronic device also comprises a management module that receives electrical power via the electrical connector when a single external cable is mated to the electrical connector through the access area. The management module receives configuration information via the single external cable while the configurable electronic device is still in the shipping box and without having host logic in the configurable electronic device being powered up. In other embodiments, multiple configurable electronic devices can be reconfigured simultaneously and wirelessly by an external programming unit.

Systems, methods and portable devices are provided for interconnecting one or more computing modules within an enclosure together to form an integrated system. A portable device may include a communication interface configured to be removably coupled to each computing module for interconnecting them together to form the integrated system. A portable device may also include memory configured to store an integrated system personality that serves as a point of authority for each computing module of the integrated system. The integrated system personality may include an identifier of the integrated system.

A method of verifying a monitoring and responsive infrastructure of a system is provided and described. The method includes setting a sensor to a simulation mode. Further, a test value is provided to simulate a real value outputted by the sensor. While in the simulation mode, the test value instead of the real value is sent to the monitoring and responsive infrastructure to invoke a response. Moreover, the response to the test value is verified. In an embodiment, the monitoring and responsive infrastructure is compliant with an Intelligent Platform Management Interface specification.
