A grease composition comprising a thickener and a lubricating base oil, wherein the lubricating base oil has a viscosity in the range of from 5-1000 cSt (at 40&#xb0; C.). The thickener is present in an amount of 5-40 wt. %, based on total weight of the grease composition. The thickener comprises an ester terminated oligomer which has the general formula: 'R1&#x2014;O&#x2014;[CO&#x2014;R2&#x2014;CO&#x2014;NH&#x2014;R3&#x2014;NH&#x2014;CO&#x2014;R2&#x2014;CO]n-O&#x2014;R1'. 'R1' represents a hydrocarbon group containing 4-22 carbon atoms. &#x201c;R2&#x201d; represents a hydrocarbon group containing 4-42 carbon atoms. &#x201c;R3&#x201d; represents a hydrocarbon group containing 2-9 carbon atoms. &#x201c;n&#x201d; represents an integer in the range of 1-20. The weight ratio between the lubricating base oil and the ester terminated oligomer (oil/oligomer) is larger than 1. The grease composition can be used for lubricating a mechanical component having a metal surface and/or for protecting a mechanical component having a metal surface against corrosion, wear and/or fretting.

Grease compositions and a method for making the same

The invention provides a process for preparing a protective layer on a tribological surface of a mechanical component, wherein the layer comprises a metal phosphate and/or metal sulphate having anti-wear and/or anti-fretting properties, and the process comprises subjecting the tribological surface of the component to a mechanical treatment which is carried out with a tool that moves at or along the tribological surface during which treatment the metal phosphate and/or metal sulphate in solid form is provided and the layer is formed on the surface of the mechanical component by means of deposition of the metal phosphate and/or metal sulphate compound.

Process for preparing a protective layer on a tribological surface of a mechanical component

A method for preparing a final grease product comprising steps of: (a) mixing a polymeric thickener, which comprises a polymer of propylene, and a lubricating base oil at a temperature above the melting point of the polymeric thickener, wherein the polymeric thickener is present in an amount of 11.5-15.5 wt %, based on the total weight of the mixture so obtained; (b) cooling the mixture as obtained in step (a); (c) subjecting the cooled mixture as obtained in step (b) to a first mechanical treatment, to obtain an intermediate grease; (d) subjecting the intermediate grease as obtained in step (c) to a second mechanical treatment, carried out at a temperature in the range of from 50-90&#xb0; C., to obtain the final grease product. The method can be applied to manufacturing of a grease.

Polymer thickened grease compositions with improved low friction properties

A lubricant system is disclosed that is formed by contacting a fibrous network with oil and/or lubricating fluid having an affinity for the fibrous network. The fibrous network comprises oleophilic fibers having a diameter between 50 nm and 10 microns and a length that is at least times the diameter. In addition, the oleophilic fibers have an affinity for the oil and/or lubricating fluid.
