A system that incorporates teachings of the subject disclosure may include, for example, detecting a first action at a first time during a first presentation of video content of a multimedia stream. The first action is coincident with a visual aspect of an event observable in the video content. A second action is detected at a second time during a second presentation of audio content of an audio stream, wherein the second action is coincident with an audible aspect of the event observable in a the second presentation of the audio content. A time difference is determined between the first time and the second time, wherein the first presentation of the video content and the second presentation of the audio content are synchronized based on the time difference. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Method and device for transmitting audio and video for playback

A system that incorporates teachings of the subject disclosure may include, for example, selecting a first multimedia stream including a first video stream and selecting a second audio stream associated with common subject matter. A timing offset is determined according to a time difference between a first input coincident with a visual aspect of an event observable in playback of the first video stream and a second input coincident with an audible aspect of the event observable in playback of the second audio stream. One of the first input, the second input, or the first and second inputs comprises performing an action during playback of the first video stream and the second audio stream at a multimedia center. The first video stream and the second audio stream are synchronized in in real-time according to the timing offset. Other embodiments are disclosed.

All calls terminating to a customer's directory number are intercepted. If caller identification information can be presented, the call is forwarded to a service node for disposition. The service node reconfigures signaling information of the call so that the call is not intercepted, then forwards the call to the subscriber's telephone. When the call is answered, the service node states the name or telephone number of the calling party which has been retrieved from the signaling information. The caller can decide whether to take the call, deny the call, send the call to voice mail or send a sales refusal message or other disposition option.

Method and system for providing enhanced caller identification information including total call control for all received calls

A system and method for detecting a false caller ID. The system receives caller identification data and signaling system data from the call, compares the caller identification data to the signaling system data, and determines if the call has a false caller ID based on the comparison. The signaling system data may include signaling system 7 data. The system may also alert the intended recipient by modifying the properties of the call or by enacting a peripheral system to contact the intended recipient.

System and method for detecting false caller ID

A video stream from a first source and an audio stream from a second source are received at a multimedia processing device such as a set-top box for play back. A first offset time is determined based upon user input, whereby playback of the video stream relative to playback of the audio stream is adjusted to facilitate synchronization of the audio and video stream.

The system includes an AIN capable switch, a service control point (SCP) having a database of designated contact numbers associated with a service subscriber telephone number, and an intelligent peripheral (IP) in communication with the SCP for contacting the designated contact numbers. The method includes the steps of recognizing an N11 trigger and the SCP initiating telephone calls, via the IP, to each of the contact numbers corresponding to the telephone number of the subscriber making the emergency telephone call.

A method of operating a telecommunications network includes, in one embodiment, detecting a call at an originating switch of the telecommunications network and, when a destination for the call matches a predetermined destination, routing the call on designated data trunks. When traffic on the designated data trunks exceeds a capacity threshold, the method further includes routing the call to a terminating switch using interoffice trunks and completing the call to the destination from the terminating switch.

Systems and methods are disclosed for providing detailed information about a party during interparty communication. Data-capable mobile devices query at least a public database to retrieve information about a set of parties engaged in communication. The results of the database query are employed to provide detailed caller identification and detail functionality to telephones or communication devices not utilizing traditional landlines or commercial caller identification service. Storage can be included to include address book function, query caching, and user preferences. An interface can be provided to facilitate display of rich caller identification information. The interface can further update displayed information without user input, or provide user selection control to request more information on a selected portion of displayed information. These features can be applied to determine the information about a party that is either receiving a communication or initiating a communication.

Party information for data-capable communication device

Communications from a first communications address identified by a service user are controlled. Data of a communication from the first communications address to a third party communications address is received. The communication is disallowed when an identification number received from a party requesting the communication is not a personal identification number specified by the service user, the first communications address is a restricted address for which the service user has elected to disallow communications, and the third party communications address is not a priority communications address for which the service user has elected to allow communications.

System and method for restricting and monitoring telephone calls

Communication address identification information is obtained. A communication address number is collected from a customer at a telecommunications apparatus in response to a trigger being initiated at a switch and a connection being established between the switch and the telecommunications apparatus. Communication address identification information is obtained from a memory in response to collecting the communication address number from the customer. The communication address identification information is returned to the customer when communication address identification information corresponding to the communication address number is available at the memory.

Unrecognized number identifier

A method for updating communications service parameters includes receiving, at a platform configured for speech recognition functionality and corresponding to a communications address associated with verbally updating communications service parameters, a voice instruction from a requester to update a communications service parameter. The voice instruction is translated into digital command data and the digital command data and the update to the communications service parameter are stored in a database. A change in a communications service corresponding to the update to the communications service parameter is implemented in near real-time.

Voice enhancing for advance intelligent network services

A method includes provisioning a mobile user with usage minutes for usage calls. The method includes determining whether the mobile user and a telephone user either belong to the same provider or different providers after a call between the users is initiated. The call is designated as a usage call if the users belong to different providers. If the call is a usage call, then the mobile user is advised that the call is a usage call and the number of usage minutes remaining and an affirmation from the mobile user is required to complete the call.

Method and system for enabling a mobile user to manage calls

A system and method are provided for blocking a telephone call from a calling party to a called party, the calling party associated with a calling party directory number, including a local-designated trunk group over which the incoming telephone call from the calling party is received. A service switching point is coupled with the local-designated trunk group, the service switching point receiving the telephone call, generating a query message including the calling party directory number, and sending the query message to a service control point. The service control point is coupled with the service switching point, receives the query message, and determines if the calling party is inter Local Access and Transport Area (interLATA) with respect to the service switching point. Where the calling party is determined to be interLATA, the service control point determines a screening indicator value, and generates a response message to the service switching point to block the telephone call received via the local-designated trunk group where the screening indicator value indicates that the telephone call is public telecommunications network provided.

System and method for blocking a telephone call

A method includes setting an account value of an account to a first amount, wherein the first amount is associated with a specified level of authorized usage of a phone associated with the account. The method further includes blocking an incoming call intended for the phone when the account value is at a second amount that is at or lower than a predetermined threshold amount, wherein the second amount is associated with available usage of the phone. A data processing system includes a triggering module to generate a trigger signal when an account value of an account is at or lower than a predetermined reserve amount, greater than zero wherein the account value is associated with authorized usage of a phone associated with the account and a blocking module to block an incoming call to the phone in response to the trigger signal.
