A housing for an electronic device includes a metal member combined with a plastic member. The combination molds the metal member to the plastic member but the plastic member is discontinuous and recesses and protrusions are cut into the metal member to enable molding and bonding with the plastic member in the manner of a dovetail joint. Manufacture in this way increases bonding strength and reduces the likelihood of internal stresses in the cooling plastic member resulting from complete envelopment of the metal by the plastic. The metal member and the plastic member are thus integrally formed and a thickness of a recess is less than a thickness of the plastic member. An electronic device and a method for making the housing are also provided.

A durable and compositely-integral housing of metal and plastic used for an electronic device includes a metal frame and a plurality of plastic filling members. The metal frame defines preset positions, and the preset positions have plastic-receiving notches. The plastic filling members are injection-molded into the notches for better adhesion and bond strength.

An injection mold includes a mold base defined with a sliding slot, a mold core detachably mounted in the mold base, and a plurality of securing devices. The mold base includes an upper mold base and a lower mold base. The mold core includes an upper mold core and a lower mold core detachably connected with the upper mold core. The mold core defines a slider. The slider slides in the sliding slot of the mold base to move the mold core in or out of the mold base. The upper mold core defines a first securing groove, and the lower mold core defines a second securing groove. The securing devices are mounted in the upper mold base and the lower mold base. The securing devices secure the first and the second securing grooves, allowing the mold core to attach to the mold base.

A sprue device for an injection mold includes a first part and a second part. The sprue device is sealed and water-cooled so as to reduce overall molding time. The connecting section defines spiral grooves. The second part includes a chassis and an extension from the chassis. The chassis is defined with a through hole, and two gates communicated with the through hole respectively. The spiral grooves mate with the wall of the mounting hole to form a spiral runner. The gates, the through hole, and the spiral runner communicate with each other. An injection mold using the sprue device is also described.

A gas extraction method including: providing an injection mold apparatus () including a mold cavity (), a gas vent () and a gas vent pin (), the mold cavity including an end portion of a material injection path (), the gas vent communicating with the end portion, the gas vent pin being received in the gas vent; injecting molten material into the mold cavity and toward the end portion; venting gas from a gap between the gas vent pin and the gas vent as molten material is injected into the mold cavity; driving the gas vent pin to substantially close the end portion of the material injection path when the mold cavity having been injected with molten material to about 95 percent of a capacity of the mold cavity.
