The present invention relates to charts, stacks and methods for evaluating skin color of a mammalian subject. The chart may include a substrate and an indicia visible from a first side of the substrate that includes a plurality of images of mammalian skin tones having varying degrees of yellowness, wherein each indicia is correlated with an index value. Also, the present invention relates to packaged topical cosmetic products that include a skin chart as well as to methods for evaluating anti-aging and skin lightening products.

Methods for quantitative measurement of under eye dark circles and other color related phenomena in eye area skin are described. The methods can be used to quantify the clinical efficacy of skin care products.

Quantification of under-eye skin color

An imaging system captures images of a human submental profile in a dimension controlled environment and utilizes image analysis algorithms for detecting submental changes. Instead of implementing a strict posture control of a subject, the imaging system allows the subject to freely move his/her head in an up-and-down direction and a high speed camera captures this movement through a series of images at varying head-to-shoulder angles. The image analysis algorithms may accurately compare before and after images at similar head-to-shoulder angles to identify changes in a human submental profile using a series of measurements and checkpoints.

The method includes the following: preparing an oil dispersion by adding inorganic pigments directly to an oil; preparing an aqueous base that includes water; combining the oil dispersion and aqueous base; and partitioning the inorganic pigments between the oil and the aqueous phase under controlled conditions, for example, hydrophile-lipophile balance, agitation time and speed, and cooling rate.
