Systems of the present disclosure include an electronic device that manages operations in low temperature environments for improved battery performance. Such management can be based on a temperature and/or a charge level of a battery of the electronic device. When the temperature of the battery is below a threshold, the components of the electronic device can be operated to generate heat until the temperature of the battery is at or above the threshold temperature. The operations can be selected and performed based on available charge in the battery, the minimum temperature change that would raise the temperature of the battery to a temperature threshold, the available temperature change that would be induced by performing one or more operations, user inputs, and the like. Such heat generation can allow the electronic device to remain on and maintain its operations despite exposure to an external environment that presents low temperatures.

Battery temperature management

An electronic device may detect a message request to send one or more redundant messages to a response network. The one or more messages may contain information previously sent from the electronic device to the response network. The electronic device may determine an entropy factor corresponding to the relatedness of the one or more messages to previously sent messages, and the electronic device may send one or more redundant bits in the place of the one or more messages if the entropy factor is below a threshold value corresponding to network resources.

Efficient communication in limited resource environments

This disclosure relates to methods and devices for mitigating overheating in a user equipment device (UE). The UE is configured to communicate over each of LTE and 5G NR and may be configured to communicate through 5G NR over each of a Sub-6 GHz and a millimeter Wave (mmW) frequency band. The UE is configured to establish an ENDC connection with an enB and one or more gNBs. The UE implements intelligent transmission modification and cell measurement adjustments to mitigate overheating and reduce battery drain.

Smart mechanism to manage thermal impact in 5G NR

The embodiments disclosed herein include capturing images via cameras or light sensors of a mobile communication device, processing the image to determine obstructed (e.g., by foliage) portions and unobstructed (e.g., open sky) portions of the images, and generating a grid indicating the obstructed and unobstructed portions. The device may then adjust operating characteristics, such as synchronizing with a communication hub or other mobile communication device, performing a handover with the communication hub or other mobile communication device, determining transmission power or an amount to increase transmission power, selecting an antenna, determining a beam direction, determining a discontinuous reception cycle or a frequency for receiving data, providing an indication to stop or proceed through certain areas (e.g., to take advantage of areas with higher signal quality or avoid areas with lower signal quality), and the like, based on the obstructed and unobstructed portions identified in the grid.

Canopy coverage determination for improved wireless connectivity

Methods, devices, and apparatus to adapt operating parameters for satellite signal reception and transmission by a wireless device to mitigate effects of fading due to specular reflections are described herein. The wireless device measures received signal power levels and compares characteristics of the measurements over an observation duration to at least one fading criteria to determine whether to operate in a normal or adaptive mode. While operating in the adaptive mode, the wireless device alternates between high performance mode time periods and low performance mode time periods. The wireless device indicates to a ground station associated with the satellite in which operating mode the wireless device is operating via an uplink data message transmitted during a data cycle at the start of a high or low performance mode time period. The ground station schedules data transmissions accordingly during subsequent data cycles of the high or low performance mode time periods.

Adaptive operation to mitigate specular reflections

Embodiments are disclosed for selecting locations for transmitting emergency beacons. In an embodiment, a method comprises: determining a current location of a mobile device in a geographic area; configuring a transmitter of the mobile device for device-to-device (D2D) communication; determining one or more candidate transmit locations for D2D communication, wherein each candidate transmit location is determined based at least in part on its elevation, proximity to a D2D device density location that is within a maximum communication distance from the candidate transmit location, and an availability of a trail or path to the candidate transmit location; receiving input selecting a particular candidate transmit location from the one or more candidate transmit locations; in accordance with the input, determining a route from the current location of the mobile device to the particular candidate transmit location; and presenting the route through an output device.

Location selection for transmitting emergency beacons

A mobile communication device is configured to receive updated network data, such as updated Content Delivery Network (CDN) data utilized to access a first network, without accessing the first network and a second network, such as a Wi-Fi or cellular network. The mobile communication device periodically transmits, via a peer-to-peer (P2P) network, a beacon signal indicating a network data request for the updated network data. A rate at which the mobile communication device periodically transmits the beacon signal is based on various criteria, such as an origination date of network data stored on the mobile communication device, an amount of time between the origination date and the present date, a battery health of the mobile communication device, and/or various inputs to the mobile communication device. An additional mobile communication device receives the beacon signal and transmits the updated network data to the mobile communication device.

Content delivery network data sharing between mobile devices

An electronic device determines a position of a communicaiton hub of a wireless network. In response to determining a position of a communication hub of a wireless communication network, the electronic device may operate one or more actuators to move the device to adjust the orientation of the device relative to the communication hub. As such, the mobile communicating device may adjust the orientation of the device relative to the communication hub to provide more reliable and/or more efficient communication of data.

In a method of device-to-device communication, a user device initially sends an emergency message repeatedly at a first repeating frequency. When a specified number acknowledgement (ACK) messages are received, the user device sends the emergency message repeatedly at a reduced repeating frequency. The repeating frequency may be further reduced when more ACK messages are received.

Enhanced procedures for sending emergency messages to multiple mobile devices

A power control method for device-to-device communication includes dynamically backing off transmit power value for synchronization signals and discovery messages when the distance between the two devices is less than a pre-determined threshold. The threshold distance may correspond to a distance where the receive power may exceed a pre-determined value. Embodiments may loop the transmit power of synchronization signals between a default transmit power value and backed-off values in consecutive slots of each frame.

Power control for synchronization and discovery messages in D2D communication

In a method of device-to-device communication, efficient power management is provided when a primary device has a low battery level. The primary device can send synchronization signals and discovery messages to secondary devices by looping through a sequence of transmit power values in a sequence of consecutive frames, where the sequence of transmitting values includes a default power value and a reduced power value.
