Verification of placement of equipment that has been installed in a rack of a data center is performed by obtaining data indicating a placement location of equipment to be installed in a rack of the data center, and verifying that the equipment has been installed in the installed rack unit position that corresponds to the placement location, based upon an equipment height measurement. Related methods, devices, and computer program products are provided.

A method for monitoring environmental parameters associated with computer equipment is described. According to the method a number of environmental parameters related to a number of computing devices are measured using a number of sensors associated with, and located at, a number of computing devices. The sensed environmental parameters are displayed, with a computer, based on an actual view of the number of computing devices. The displayed sensed environmental parameters create a spatial relation with a space to which each sensed environmental parameter pertains.

The operations can include identifying an unproductive group of guest virtual machines (VMs) that satisfy a defined rule for being unproductive on an first group of physical host machines based on infrastructure of a distributed computing system used by the first group of the physical host machines to host the guest VMs. A relocation scenario is generated for relocating the unproductive group of the guest VMs from the first group of the physical host machines to a second group of the physical host machines. An effect of the relocation scenario on infrastructure usage of the distributed computing system is estimated. The unproductive group of the guest VMs is relocated from the first group of the physical host machines to the second group of the physical host machines based on the relocation scenario.

A management information base (MIB) mapping controller discovers presence of an electronic device accessible through a network connected to the MIB mapping controller. A MIB table contains information mapping device interface variables for interfaces of electronic devices to common interface variables. The MIB table is accessed to determine whether the MIB table contains particular information mapping an device interface variable for an interface of the electronic device to one of the common interface variables known by the common access interface. Responsive to determining that the MIB table does not contain the particular information, new information is determined that maps the device interface variable for the interface of the electronic device to one of the common interface variables known by the common access interface. The memory includes computer readable program code that when executed by the processor causes the processor to perform operations. The operations include, for each of a plurality of guest virtual machines (VMs) of a VM cluster provided by computer operations of a physical machine among a plurality of physical machines within a distributed computing system, determining a productivity metric for the guest VM based on resources of the physical machine that are used by the guest VM. The operations further include for each of the guest VMs, determining, based on the productivity metric for the guest VM, an infrastructure value that indicates how much infrastructure of the distributed computing system is attributed to providing the guest VM.

Determining virtual machine utilization of distributed computed system infrastructure

Some embodiments disclosed herein are directed to a resource management node that controls deployment of resource nodes in a distributed computing system. The resource management node includes a processor and a memory having computer readable program code that when executed by the processor causes the processor to perform operations that include deploying a group of resource nodes in a distributed computing system, and distributing requests received from the user electronic devices to the resource nodes of the group for processing. A resource deployment threshold is determined based on performance parameters of the resource nodes of the group, and a loading metric is determined based on the request. The operations include controlling further deployment of resource nodes to the group responsive to comparison of the loading metric to the resource deployment threshold. Related methods in a resource management node are disclosed.
