A method, system, and computer program product for coupled noise timing violation avoidance in detailed routing of an integrated circuit design are provided. The method includes calculating a noise induced timing violation sensitivity (NITVS) metric for nets in the integrated circuit design as a measure of sensitivity to a timing violation relative to a coupled noise delay adder, prioritizing routing isolation as a function of the NITVS metric for each of the nets to avoid coupled noise timing violations, and outputting the routing isolation priority.

Embodiments of the invention are directed to a single driver that can be used to transmit data with configurable levels of pre-emphasis, and can have either a constant or adjustable driver output impendence, selectively. One embodiment, directed to a driver apparatus, is associated with a digital communication channel for transmitting data signals, wherein at least one of the signals includes a higher frequency component. The apparatus comprises a first sub-driver that has a constant output impedance, and is selectively configurable to implement two or more different levels of pre-emphasis. The apparatus further comprises one or more second sub-drivers. A set of connector elements are provided for connecting the first sub-driver and each of the second sub-drivers in parallel relationship with one another, so that the first sub-driver and each of the second sub-drivers all have inputs that respectively receive a specified driver apparatus input signal, and all have outputs that are connected together to selectively provide a specified driver apparatus output impedance. The apparatus further includes a device that is connected to selectively disable and enable each of the second sub-drivers.

Multimodal memory controllers are disclosed that include: a transmitter having a first input signal line, a second input signal line, a first output signal line, a second output signal line, a first single-ended driver, a second single-ended driver, a differential transmitter, and a mode control signal line, the mode control signal line having asserted upon it a mode control signal, the transmitter configured to operate the output signal lines using the single-ended drivers at a first voltage when the mode control signal is a first value and to operate the output signal lines using the differential transmitter at a second voltage when the mode control signal is a second value, and the transmitter configured to protect the differential transmitter from the first voltage when the mode control signal is the first value.
