An improved keypad and speaker assembly is provided. The assembly () comprises a speaker grille formed of torturous porting (), and a keyboard () comprising audio slots () which are offset beneath the tortuous porting (). The speaker () is aligned beneath the keyboard (). The tortuous porting () and audio slots () provide an unobstructed air passage/path between the speaker and ambient while protecting against water intrusion.

A rotary control () provides improved running-torque through a running-torque stack up assembly (). The running-torque stack up assembly () may be implemented in a modular approach () independent of a shaft () and switch housing, or may be implemented to incorporate the shaft () and switch housing. The running-torque stack up assembly () is formed of a spring (), a stationary disk (), and a rotating disk () having sliding top and bottom surfaces provided through either pads () or an overmolded coating ().

Rotary control

A rotary on/off control switch () provides improved torque with single click operation. Rotary on/off control switch () is formed of a casing (), a drive member (), and a carrier member () having frictional elements () coupled thereto. A lever () and drive member () provide rotation of the carrier within the casing. In response to rotation of the drive member (), carrier member () and lever (), each frictional element () travels against the casing generating torque for single click ON operation. Rotation past a predetermined angle causes the carrier member () to remain stationary for variable function control of the rotary on/off control switch (). Reverse rotation of the drive member (), carrier member () and lever (), generates torque for single click OFF operation.
