An AV sensor can be cleaned by charging a conductive layer over a sensor surface. The conductive layer may be positively or negatively charged and can repel contaminants having the same polarity away from the sensor. The charging of the conductive layer can be triggered by a determination that the sensor needs cleaning, which can be based on sensor data captured by the sensor or a different sensor. The charging of the conductive layer may include one or more charging cycles, each of which includes charging the conductive layer with two opposing polarities. Another conductive layer may be over the conductive layer. The other conductive layer can be charged with an opposite polarity from the conductive layer so that an electric field is present between the two conductive layers. A piezoelectric layer between the two conductive layers can vibrate under the electric field. The vibration can enhance the cleaning.

System and method for cleaning sensors of autonomous vehicles

Methods and systems are provided for generating an on-demand distributed aperture by mechanical articulation. In some aspects, a process can include steps for determining a location of an autonomous vehicle, determining whether a maneuver requires long range detections or medium range detections based on the location of the autonomous vehicle, positioning at least two articulated radars based on the determining of whether the maneuver requires long range detections or medium range detections, and enabling a mode of resolution based on the positioning of the at least two articulated radars and by utilizing a static radar. Systems and machine-readable media are also provided.

A set of devices are coupled to a control area network (CAN) bus. At least some of the devices include switchable resistors that can apply a termination resistor to the CAN bus. Identification pins are used to identify devices on the CAN bus, and also to identify which device or devices are at the ends of the CAN bus. If a device is at an end of the CAN bus, the switch of the switchable resistor is set to couple the termination resistor to the CAN bus. Otherwise, the termination resistor is not coupled to the CAN bus.

The subject disclosure relates to features for improving the modularity and interoperability of sensors and in particular, sensors deployed for use in vehicle related sensing applications. In some aspects, the disclosed technology encompasses a sensor aggregation module (e.g., sensor pod) that includes a sensor enclosure having an interior volume configured for housing one or more sensors, a data port integrated into an exterior surface of the sensor enclosure, wherein the data port is configured to be electrically coupled to a vehicle data port, and a plurality of sensor ports disposed within an interior volume of the sensor enclosure, wherein the sensor ports are configured for modular connectivity to the one or more sensors.

Apparatuses, methods and storage medium associated with restricting current draw in wearable devices are disclosed herein. In embodiments, a wearable computing device may include a power source, one or more components coupled with each other and to the power source to perform wearable computing; and control circuitry coupled with the one or more components, the control circuitry to: identify a threshold selected based on a power consumption model of the wearable computing device; ascertain whether current draw from the power source is greater than the threshold; and restrict the current draw from the power source of the wearable computing device based on a signal output from one of the one or more components, in response to the current draw is ascertained to be greater than the threshold. Other embodiments may be disclosed or claimed.

Restricting current draw in wearable devices

Methods and apparatus are disclosed for battery current monitoring. A current controller can prevent injury from a battery operated wearable device. An isolation switch can interrupt delivery of current of a battery to a load in response to an isolation switch control signal to prevent burn injury to a wearer of the battery operated wearable device. The battery operated wearable device can be wrist wearable or head wearable.

Implementing over-temperature fault protection in wearable devices and other electronic devices may be performed using an example apparatus including a voltage source; a thermistor bias network to, when enabled, output a thermistor voltage; an over-temperature determiner to enable the thermistor bias network; and, when the thermistor voltage corresponds to a temperature above a maximum temperature threshold, output a fault; and an isolation transistor to couple the voltage source to a system; and when the over-temperature determiner outputs the fault, decouple the voltage source from the system.
