Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with determining the availability of a first device in a wireless network to provide a service to a second device within the wireless network are described. According to one embodiment, a method includes periodically transmitting a discovery packet, in accordance with a broadcast communication protocol, within a network. The discovery packet comprises a request to reply with a corresponding name of the responding device. The corresponding name of each responding device is received and stored in memory. When a request to identify devices in the network is received, a confirmation packet comprising a request to confirm availability is respectively transmitted, in accordance with a point-to-point protocol, to devices having a corresponding name stored in the memory. A response confirming availability is received from responding devices. Only the names of the responding devices that confirmed availability are provided in response to the request.

Method and apparatus for determining the availability of a first device in a wireless network to provide a service to a second device within the wireless network

The present disclosure describes techniques for pre-association discovery. In some aspects a frame having information useful to identify a service provided by a wireless device is received, the service provided by the wireless device is identified based on the information of the frame and known service identification information, and the identified service is associated with the wireless device effective to enable use of the identified service.

Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with providing a user interface having a guided task flow among a plurality of devices are described. According to one embodiment, a method includes receiving, by a first device, a request from a second device requesting a user interface. The request includes a parameter describing a configuration of the second device. The second device is remote from the first device and includes a display. The method also includes generating, from a template user interface, a user interface for the second device based, at least in part, on the parameter. The user interface includes a task flow for controlling the first device to perform a series of tasks. The method includes providing the user interface to the second device for display on the display of the second device.

Method and apparatus for providing a user interface having a guided task flow among a plurality of devices

Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with encoding and processing page description language (PDL) documents using a light-weight data interchange format are described. According to one embodiment, an apparatus includes a communication logic configured to receive a request for a page description language (PDL) document. The PDL document is encoded in accordance with a lightweight data interchange format that includes (i) content of the page, and (ii) an arrangement of the content within the page. The apparatus includes a processing logic configured to retrieve the PDL document from a data store and to interpret the PDL document to generate a rasterized document that defines a layout of the page to be printed. The layout of the page as defined by the rasterized document is consistent with the arrangement of the content within the page as specified by the PDL document encoded with the lightweight data interchange format.

Method and apparatus for processing a page description language document

A network device including a controller, a transmitter and a receiver. The controller is configured to generate a first request that initiates, via a cloud, scanning of a document via a scanner. The cloud includes a service device, and a document device that is separate from the document device. The transmitter is configured to, prior to the scanner scanning the document, transmit the first request from the network device to the service device. The receiver is configured to, based on the first request received at the service device and subsequent to the scanner scanning the document, receive an image file transmitted from the document device to the network device without prior transmission of the image file from the document device to the service device. The image file includes an image of the document.

Apparatus having corresponding methods and computer-readable media comprise: a controller configured to generate a cloud scan request, wherein the cloud scan request represents a request to scan a document using cloud services; a transmitter configured to transmit the cloud scan request to a cloud print service; and a receiver configured to receive an image file from a cloud document service, wherein the file includes an image of the document.

Image acquisition using cloud services

An operating environment emulation system includes a separate peripheral emulation system having a memory device. The memory device is operable to store one or more executable programs, referred to as emulators. The emulators are operable to emulate an original operating environment. Multiple emulators may be deployed on the emulation system to allow execution and presentation of an original operating environment on several different host computers. The system also includes a method for connecting the emulation system to a host computer or accessory device upon which the emulation will run. The emulator may employ insulation processes to limit interaction between the emulation system and host computer resources.
