Embodiments consistent with the invention include a method of creating a document on a computing device and a computer-readable storage medium. The method includes: receiving input text in the computing device to initiate a document creation process, the computing device including a first portion of font data for a first language, the first portion including less than all of the font data for the first language; based on the input text, determining whether the first portion is sufficient to create the document on the computing device; loading a second portion of the font data to the computing device from a data storage location if the first portion is not sufficient; and creating the document using at least one of the first portion and the second portion.

Exemplary embodiments are directed to a device and a computer-readable storage medium for creating and editing documents or messages by dynamically loading the required data on the computing device as the documents or messages are being created or edited. These exemplary embodiments have relevance for creating or editing documents or messages in non-English languages using a computing device that is pre-configured to create English documents or messages, but not non-English documents or messages. Further, these embodiments allow a user to create and edit documents and messages on a computing device that may not have been configured a priori or have limited storage capability to support the entire data set required for creating the documents or messages in a specific language. The computing device is required to communicate with a data storage device to dynamically load the required data from therein.

The present invention provides an apparatus and method for encoding, storing, transmitting and decoding multimedia information in the form of scalable, streamed digital data. A base stream containing basic informational content and subsequent streams containing additive informational content are initially created from standard digital multimedia data by a transcoder. Client computers, each of which may have different configurations and capabilities are capable of accessing a stream server that contains the scalable streamed digital data. Each different client computer, therefore, may access different stream combinations according to a profile associated with each different client computer. Thus, the streams accessed from the server are tailored to match the profile of each client computer so that the best combination of streams can be provided to maximize the resolution of the 3D, audio and video components.
