A method, apparatus, system, and signal-bearing medium that in an embodiment request a program or programs to tune themselves to run faster or slower if a service class is not meeting its performance goal. In an embodiment, the program is repeatedly requested to incrementally tune itself until the performance goal is met or until no further improvement occurs. In various embodiments, the programs to be requested to tune themselves are selected based on whether the programs are bottlenecks for the service class, whether the programs do the majority of work for the service class, whether the programs easily meet their own performance goals, or whether the programs are low priority. In this way, the programs may be performance tuned in a way that is more effective and less intrusive than by adjusting global, system-level resource allocations.

Program-level performance tuning

Hardware and partition information of an existing LPAR system is collected and stored in a first system plan file. The first system plan file is applied to a partition planning tool. The partition planning tool identifies hardware to be reused in a second LPAR system and filters hardware to be excluded from the second LPAR system. The partition planning tool creates a plan for the second LPAR system using the identified hardware to be reused and the partition information. The created plan for the second LPAR system is applied to a partition deployment tool to partition the second LPAR system. The created plan for the second LPAR system is used to move and place hardware to be reused in the second LPAR system.

A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided for implementing professional use of instant messaging. A flow of an IM conversation is displayed. Responsive to identifying a user selection to pair a response with a previous request, a user entered response and a user selected previous request are sent. Responsive to a user selection, a new topic is displayed in a new view and a new IM conversation is started. When an IM conversation is completed or a window is closed for the IM conversation; the IM conversation is automatically saved. Responsive to a user selection, another user is added to the IM conversation and a window including the flow of the IM conversation is displayed to the added user. An object can be linked to an IM conversation and the IM conversation is automatically saved with the selected object.

Method, computer program product and apparatus for implementing professional use of instant messaging

A method, computer program product and apparatus are provided for providing dynamic assistance for disabled user interface resources. Code for disabling controls is identified. A state of the identified control is changed from disabled to disabled with assistance. Assistance text is provided to explain why control is disabled. Code is provided for correcting the condition for disabling control. An assistance icon is displayed for viewing by the user. Responsive to a user selection of the assistance icon, the assistance text is displayed. An adjustment button is displayed. Responsive to a user selection of the adjustment button, the code for correcting the condition for disabling control is used, and an action is executed on eligible items.

Method and apparatus for providing dynamic assistance for disabled user interface resources

An occupancy alarm system can be integrated into a motor vehicle or can be portable. The occupancy alarm system may be programmed to communicate with a program within a logic unit of the on-board computer within the vehicle or a cellular telephone or other wireless logic device so that if the driver's door is open and the engine is turned off but there still is an occupant in the motor vehicle, an alarm is immediately triggered. The GPS coordinates of the motor vehicle or the cellular telephone or other wireless device may be communicated to a remote location service or a local emergency center as part of the alarm. The occupancy sensor may be mounted on the occupant or on the restraint system, and may interact with an ambient temperature sensor and an alarm, both of which may be integrated into a motor vehicle, to indicate that a dangerous condition exists for an occupant within the motor vehicle. The occupancy sensor, the ambient temperature monitor, and the alarm may further be integrated together for a portable alarm system or may be mounted or otherwise integrated onto a portable restraint system. The occupancy alarm system may provide an interface and an override such that when the occupant remains in a potentially hazardous environment, that state is communicated via the interface and, if monitored by a responsible adult, the alarm can be overridden.
