A method includes identifying an alternating current power source associated with a direct current-powered device, determining a storage scheme for storing direct current power, converted from alternating current power input from the identified alternating current power source, in a local storage component associated with the direct current-powered device, and managing output of direct current power to the direct current-powered device based on the storage scheme and the identified alternating current power source.

Reducing conversion losses and minimizing load via appliance level distributed storage

Methods, systems, and computer program products for managing a picogrid with a computing device are provided herein. A method includes generating one or more power-related models based on (i) data pertaining to a given device battery, (ii) data pertaining to one or more context sources, and (iii) one or more items of power-related historical data; determining a charging schedule for the given device battery to provision power for a picogrid based on the one or more power-related models, wherein said picogrid comprises a set of one or more additional devices connected to (i) the given device and (ii) an energy storage component; and implementing the charging schedule on the given device.

Managing a picogrid with a computing device

Methods, systems, and computer program products for distributed phase balancing are provided herein. A method of use in connection with a distribution network having a phase imbalance includes determining one or more power consumption parameters associated with a given entity of the distribution network; determining one or more power supply parameters associated with the given entity of the distribution network; and computing, based on said one or more power consumption parameters and said one or more power supply parameters, at least one of (i) a level of power consumption increase and/or decrease and (ii) a level of power supply increase and/or decrease associated with one or more devices of the given entity to remedy the phase imbalance within the distribution network.

Embodiments of the present invention provide a system, method, and computer program product to detect and localize non-technical losses in an energy distribution system. A computing device determines the energy consumption of a link and/or node that is associated with an energy grid. The computing device determines the mismatch between the determined energy consumption of the link and/or node and the predicted energy consumption of the link and/or node. The computing device also determines the location of unauthorized energy consumption within the energy that is associated with the mismatch.

Non-technical loss detection and localization

Techniques for real-time pricing of electrical energy are provided. The techniques include receiving electrical energy data, wherein the electrical energy data comprises one or more energy pricing parameters specified by an energy supplier, measuring power grid frequency, wherein the power grid comprises the current frequency of the power grid, measuring current energy consumption, wherein current energy consumption comprises total energy consumption in a sampling period, retrieving consumption history, wherein consumption history comprises energy consumed by a customer over a time period, computing a unit energy rate as a function of customer type, the one or more pricing parameters, frequency and past history of consumption, and using the computed rate to compute a total charge as a product of the unit energy rate and the total energy consumption.
