While the first substrate is immersed in the solution so that the pixel electrode is soaked therein, a channel of the thin film transistor is opened by applying a voltage to the gate electrode, a potential difference between the pixel electrode and the mesh is generated by connecting a voltage source between a terminal electrically connected to the source electrode and the mesh, and materials in the solution are deposited on the pixel electrode, thereby forming the electrochromic semiconductor layer.

The field emission display device and the field emission type backlight device according to the present invention has a reduced number of manufacturing processes and is suitable for a compact, slim and lightweight design, and a large screen by having the sealing structure for the vacuum exhaust.

A method of fabricating a field emission display employing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as electron emitters is provided. The method includes forming a cathode on a substrate; forming a gate insulation layer having a plurality of gate holes on the cathode; forming a gate electrode having a plurality of via-holes corresponding to the gate holes, respectively, on the gate insulation layer; forming a plurality of conductive columns higher than the gate electrode on the cathode within the respective gate holes; adhering the CNTs to the bottom of a plate template which is separately provided; bringing the bottom of the template having the CNTs to contact the tops of the conductive columns to adhere the CNTs to the tops of the conductive columns; and firing the conductive columns to lower the levels thereof. Accordingly, the problems of conventional methods, such as sinking of CNTs caused by screen printing, residual CNTs remaining within a gate when a lift-off method is used and short circuiting between gate and cathode due to the residual CNTs, can be solved. In addition, CNTs are applied to only a part for field emission, that is, only the top of a conductive column, thereby requiring fewer CNTs and decreasing fabrication cost. Moreover, the method uses stamping in order to form CNTs, so it is very advantageous in mass production.

Method of fabricating field emission display employing carbon nanotubes

A method of manufacturing a field emitter array using carbon nanotubes, low voltage field emission material, is provided. The method includes the steps of (a) forming a conductive thin film layer on the top of a transparent substrate having a transparent electrode and exposing a predetermined portion of the transparent electrode; (b) forming an opaque thin film layer on the exposed predetermined portion of the transparent electrode; (c) depositing an insulation material on the entire top surface of the transparent substrate and removing the insulation material from the top surfaces of the conductive thin film layer and the opaque thin film layer, thereby forming an insulation layer; (d) forming a gate layer on the top of the insulation layer; and (e) removing the opaque thin film layer and forming carbon nanotube tips on the top of the exposed transparent electrode. Accordingly, the triode carbon nanotube field emitter array can be easily manufactured using a small number of mask layers and without using a special aligner.

Method of manufacturing triode carbon nanotube field emitter array

A method of manufacturing a carbon nanotube field emitter for field emission displays by electrophoresis is disclosed. The method of manufacturing involves: first, loading an electrode plate and the field emitter substrate, which are spaced apart from one another, into an electrophoresis bath containing a carbon nanotube suspension for the electrophoresis; second, applying a predetermined bias voltage from a power supply between the electrode plate and the cathodes of the field emitter substrate to deposit, at room temperature, carbon nanotube particles on the surface of the electrodes exposed through the holes of the dielectric film; and third, drawing the field emitter substrate, on which the carbon nanotube particles have been deposited, out of the electrophoresis bath, and heating the field emitter substrate with carbon nanotube tips at a predetermined temperature. An efficient low-temperature process, incorporating low cost carbon nanotube particles, provides for a lower manufacturing cost.
