A flat fluorescent lamp with discharge uniformity is provided. The lamp includes a first substrate and a second substrate having discharge electrodes; a sidewall corresponding to a frame of any one of the two substrates; and a plurality of serpentine shaped discharge channels defined by the sidewall, first barrier ribs, and second barrier ribs, and having serpentine shaped widths corresponding to horizontal pitches between the left/right sidewall and the first barrier rib and between the first barrier ribs, and having discharge channel widths corresponding to vertical pitches between the second barrier ribs, wherein the serpentine shaped discharge channel is varied in length depending on its position within the flat fluorescent lamp.

Flat fluorescent lamp with discharge uniformity

The present invention discloses a flat fluorescent lamp which improves discharge efficiency and luminance with an increase of a current density per discharge channel by forming multiple discharge channels of an independent serpentine layout and an exhaust channel and minimizes non-light emitting regions caused from the external electrode. The flat fluorescent lamp comprises: side walls for forming closed spaces between a front substrate and a rear substrate; partitions formed on the rear substrate and for forming multiple discharge channels of an independent serpentine layout; an exhaust channel formed on the rear substrate, connected to the respective discharge channels and used for vacuum exhaustion or discharge gas injection; and discharge electrodes arranged on both opposite ends of the starting and ending points of the multiple discharge channels of an independent serpentine layout and for discharging the discharge channels in parallel.

Flat fluorescent lamp with improved discharge efficiency

A flat fluorescent lamp has a uniform screen brightness even with a low discharge initiating voltage. A backlight unit using the flat fluorescent lamp is provided. The flat fluorescent lamp includes a front substrate, a back substrate having a continuous serpentine type discharge channel defined by a plurality of partitions extending alternately from both side ends of the back substrate. An inverter and a pair of electrodes provided on one of the front and the back substrates apply power to the electrodes. Each of the electrodes includes discharge electrodes mounted in strip configurations and a plurality of subsidiary electrodes that are mounted to extend perpendicularly from the discharge electrodes and to correspond to positions of the partitions. The plurality of subsidiary electrodes are alternately connected to inner edges of both the discharge electrodes so that neighboring subsidiary electrodes have different polarities.

Flat fluorescent lamp requiring low discharge initiating voltage and backlight unit having uniform brightness

Disclosed herein is a back light device for LCDs. The back light device includes an inverter to supply an alternating current or a pulse, a plurality of fluorescent lamps to radiate visible light, a reflection member to reflect the light radiated from the fluorescent lamps, a diffusion member to diffuse the light, and a frame to house the above elements therein. An external electrode is provided at a first end of each of the fluorescent lamps, and an internal electrode is provided at a second end of each of the fluorescent lamps. An extension electrode is provided on an outer surface of the second end of each of the fluorescent lamps to be connected to an associated internal electrode. A holding terminal is provided at each of both ends of each fluorescent lamp to connect the external and extension electrodes to each other. Further, an inverter is provided to operate the fluorescent lamps.

Back light device for liquid crystal displays

The object of this invention is to provide a direct-type back light device, capable of maintaining uniform luminance, and reducing manufacturing costs and power consumption, in addition to being easy to assemble and to accomplish thinness. The back light device includes a frame, a diffusion member provided in an upper portion of the frame to diffuse light, a plurality of fluorescent lamps provided under the diffusion member to radiate the light, a reflection member provided under the plurality of fluorescent lamps to reflect the light radiated from the fluorescent lamps, a lamp holder to hold each of the plurality of fluorescent lamps, an inverter to turn on or off the plurality of fluorescent lamps, and a capacitive circuit element and an insulator provided on first and second ends of the fluorescent lamps, respectively, to connect the plurality of the fluorescent lamps to the inverter in parallel with each other. The capacitive circuit element includes along a first surface thereof a first common electrode to be connected to a first end of the inverter, and a plurality of independent electrodes along a second surface thereof to be connected to the first ends of the fluorescent lamps. The insulator has along a surface thereof a second common electrode to be connected to the second end of each of the fluorescent lamps and to a second end of the inverter.

Direct-type back light device

An apparatus for manufacturing a surface light source apparatus in which a light guide pattern portion is formed on a light guide panel includes a pattern design system to which data about a pattern to be formed on the light guide pattern is input. A control system is connected to the pattern design system and transmits a position signal matching a coordinate value of each pattern to be formed on the light guide panel. A header moving portion mechanically moves vertically and horizontally according to the position signal received from the control system. A laser system outputs a laser beam according to a pulse signal synchronized with a movement of the header moving portion. A lens portion allows a laser beam output from the laser system to pass the header moving portion and to be focused on a scanning surface of the light guide panel. A warp prevention unit prevents the light guide panel from warping due to a local heating by the laser beam. An absorption and scattering prevention unit prevents smoke generated when the light guide pattern portion is formed on the light guide panel.
