To apply a thermal barrier coating (), a plasma jet () is generated by a plasma torch in a work chamber () and is directed to the surface of a substrate () introduced into the work chamber, and a ceramic coating material is applied to the substrate surface by means of PS-PVD, wherein the coating material is injected into the plasma jet as a powder and is partly or completely vaporized there. On applying the thermal barrier coating, in a first workstep the feed rate of the injected powder is set so that a large part of the injected powder vaporizes, wherein the coating material condenses from the vapor phase on the substrate surface and forms mixed phases with the material of the substrate surface. In a second workstep, the feed rate of the injected powder it increased by at least a factor of 5, whereby the portion of the powder which vaporizes is reduced and the coating material is deposited in the form of elongate columns which form an anisotropic microstructure and which are aligned substantially perpendicular to the substrate surface.

Method of applying a thermal barrier coating

A system for gas separation has a mechanically stable metallic substrate layer having a pair of opposite faces and formed throughout with open pores. Respective functional layers laminated on each of the faces are composed of TiOor ZrO. These functional layers are formed throughout with pores having an average pore diameter of less than 1 nm.

A heat-insulating material has a first phase with the stoichiometric composition of 0.1 to 10 mol-% M1O, 0.1 to 10 mol-% LiO, and as the remainder M2Owith possible impurities. M1 is selected from the elements lanthanum, neodymium, gadolinium, or a mixture thereof, and M2 is selected from the elements aluminum, gallium, iron, or a mixture thereof. The first phase is present in a magnetoplumbite structure.

Heat-insulating material, production method and use thereof

The aim of the invention is to produce complete high temperature fuel cells by means of thermal injection processes (e.g. atmospheric plasma injection, vacuum plasma injection, high speed flame injection). The production method is especially simplified and is economical by virtue of the fact that the carrier substrate is also produced on a base with the aid of a thermal injection method. The base or an intermediate layer placed thereon can be advantageously dissolved or decomposed such that the carrier substrate provided with layers arranged thereon can be separated in a very simple manner from the base which becomes unnecessary. Said method advantageously enables the production of all layers of a high temperature fuel cell, exclusively with the aid of a thermal injection method.

Method for producing a layer system comprising a metallic carrier and an anode functional layer

A heat-insulating material has a melting point above 2500&#xb0; C., a thermal expansion coefficient in excess of 8&#xd7;10K, and a sintering temperature greater than 1400&#xb0; C. It has a perovskite structure of the general formula A(B'B&#x2033;)Owhere

A porous near-net-shape metallic parts with an open porosity of at least 10% by volume is made by first forming an injectable mass of a metallic powder of stainless steel, Ti, NiTi, or a titanium alloy, at least one thermoplastic binder, and at least one place holder. The mass then injection molded into the shape of the part to be produced, cooled, set in a capillary-active material, and subjected to a first-stage binder removal to produce an open porosity. The place holder is then removed at least partially from the part with a fluid, and the part is subjected to a thermal binder-removing process. Finally the part is sintered.

Method for the production of near net-shaped metallic and/or ceramic parts

The invention relates to a high-temperature resistant seal, particularly a seal for use in a high-temperature fuel cell. The inventive seal comprises a structured metallic layer having at least one area on whose surface a filler is placed. The filler is comprised, in particular, of clay minerals or ceramic materials. The seal thus advantageously combines the sealing properties of a metallic layer, for example, of an undulated metal foil with the elastic properties of the filler. The seal is particularly suited for use at high temperatures and thus, for example, in high-temperature fuel cells.

High-temperature resistant seal

The invention relates to a method for producing highly porous, metallic molded bodies. The inventive method consists of the following steps: a metallic powder used as a starting material is mixed with a dummy; a green body is pressed out of the mixture; the green body is subjected to conventional mechanical machining, the dummy advantageously increasing the stability of the green body; the dummy material is thermally separated from the green body by means of air, a vacuum or an inert gas; and the green body is sintered to form the molded body and is then advantageously finished. Suitable materials for the dummy are, for example, ammonium bicarbonate or carbamide. The mechanical machining carried out before the sintering advantageously enables a simple production close to the desired final contours, even for complicated geometries of the molded body to be produced, without impairing the porosity, and without high wear of the tools. The workpiece is advantageously sufficiently stable in terms of pressure for the green machining as the dummy material is still present in the pores of the green body during the machining.

Method for producing highly porous metallic moulded bodies close to the desired final contours

In an electrode for a fuel cell which has a porous self-supporting layer and another layer with catalytic properties disposed on said self-supporting layer, the self-supporting layer has a thickness several times greater than that of the layer with the catalytic properties and consists of a cermet comprising Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 or TiO.sub.2 to which Ni is admixed.

Electrode substrate for fuel cell

The following steps are performed for joining workpieces of metal or ceramic to each other by boundary surface diffusion at the junction location. After laying together the surfaces at which the workpieces are to be joined together, a layer is applied to the outer edge of the joint location consisting of a material compatible with the material of the parts to be joined and mechanically stable under high static pressure. The layer is fixed and sealed. Thereafter the workpieces are diffusion welded by hot isostatic pressing (HIP). A layer meeting the requirements of this process can be applied by plasma spraying onto the region of the seam at the outer edge of the junction location.
