The composition is prepared by spray drying an aqueous vinyl ester polymer dispersion in the presence of a hydrophobic silica. The silica is preferably a product from the reaction of a hydrophilic silica with an organochlorosilane. The composition can be redispersed in water and the films produced from such dispersions are transparent; they are suitable for the production of paints, glues and adhesives.
