A device that stores a low molecular gas, such as hydrogen (H), under high pressure includes having an inner shell and at least one outer sleeve surrounding the inner shell. The region between the inner shell and the outer sleeve is connected via at least one valve with a backflow prevention capability to the region surrounded by the inner shell. The valve is thereby formed so that low molecular gas which has diffused through the inner shell can flow back into the inner shell when there are suitable pressure conditions.

A system to supply hydrogen-rich fuel to an internal combustion engine, whereby a hydrogen-rich gas is produced from a liquid raw fuel by a hydrogen generator. The exhaust line of the internal combustion engine contains an exhaust purification system, such as a DeNOx catalytic converter, which is at least temporarily supplied with hydrogen-rich gas through a bypass line. In addition, the exhaust line is in thermal contact with the hydrogen generator in order to recover thermal energy.

A process for generating a high-hydrogen, low-carbon monoxide gas comprises generating a product gas in a gas generating device. In a gas purification stage, the carbon monoxide fraction in the product gas is reduced by selective CO oxidation on an oxidation catalyst. During a starting phase, oxygen is admixed to the supplied fuel and the flow direction is reversed such that the flow first takes place through the gas purification stage and only then through the gas generating device.

A system for the water vapor reforming of a hydrocarbon includes a modular reactor unit of the plate stack and/or tube bundle type that, in an integrated manner, contains an evaporator, a prereforming unit, a main reformer, a CO removal unit and a catalytic burner unit. The evaporator and the main reformer are in a thermal contact with the catalytic burner unit and, the prereforming unit is in a thermal contact with the CO removal unit.

A process for operating a methanol reforming system in which, in the reforming reaction operation, methanol is reformed in a methanol reforming reactor using a methanol reforming catalyst. The reforming reaction operation is interrupted periodically for catalyst reactivation phases during which the methanol reforming catalyst whose catalytic activity decreases in the reforming reaction operation is treated in an activity-regenerating manner. A reformation reactor, especially suitable for the reformation of methanol, includes a reaction zone in which a reformation catalyst is located and to which a gas mixture to be reformed can be supplied. The reactor includes an evaporator body that adjoins the reaction zone in a flush manner. The evaporator body has a porous, heat-conducting structure for providing the gas mixture to be reformed by mixing and evaporating the gas mixture components supplied to it and for two-dimensionally distributed supply of the gas mixture thus prepared and into the reaction zone. A starting phase can be provided for the operation of the reactor, in which the evaporator body is wetted by a fuel liquid film and, following the addition of oxygen, a flammable mixture results in the reaction zone that is catalytically oxidized. The evaporator body can be heated to operating temperature by the resultant combustion heat, after which a switch can be made to continuous operation of the reformation reactor.

Reformation reactor and operating method

A method for operating a system for the steam reforming of a hydrocarbon or hydrocarbon derivative starting substance includes, during the cold-starting of the system, at least part of a reforming reactor is used as a multi-function reactor unit. A fuel and an oxygen-containing gas is delivered to the reforming reactor as a catalytic burner unit in a first operating phase. In a subsequent second operating phase, the reforming reactor is a partial oxidation unit for the starting substance. Water may be added shortly before the second operating phase commences. Alternatively, or in addition thereto, the fuel flow rate may be increased with a rising temperature in the first operating phase or a substoichiometric oxygen flow rate may be set as early as in the first operating phase.

Method for operating a system for water-vapor reforming of a hydrocarbon

In a method and apparatus for selective catalytic oxidation of carbon monoxide, the gas mixture and an additionally added oxidizing gas are conducted through a reactor containing the catalyst. Oxidizing gas is added at several points along the mixed gas flow path with a controlled or regulated through flow volume. The mixed gas stream is cooled passively by static mixing structures located in the inlet area of the CO-oxidation reactor. By controlling exothermal CO oxidation along the reactor path, a very variable process guidance is provided, that can be adjusted to individual situations.
