An apparatus for enhancing a person's breathing and artificial respiration which includes inspiration and expiration phases and operates in a situation where the inspiration phase is repeated periodically within the time content of the operation of the lungs. A respiratory gas breathing line having a tubular connection to a person's trachea also has a connection to a gas supply line. A pressure sensor is located in the tubular connection and it is connected to pressure control means which is also connected to the tubular connection and to the gas supply. In addition, pressure sensor is located in the tubular connection and connected to pressure control means connected between the respiratory breathing line and the gas supply. A pressure reducer, a dosing valve and an inspiration valve are located in series in the connection between the gas supply and the tubular connection. The pressure control means includes a frequency control device having a housing with a control chamber therein which is separated by adjustable partition means into an inspiration control chamber and an expiration control chamber which may be adjusted in size relatively. A frequency valve is provided with an inspiration line connection to the inspiration chamber and an expiration line connected to the expiration chamber. Pneumatic inspiration control elements are located in the inspiration line and the expiration line and a second inspiration line and respiration line is connected from the respective inspiration and respiration chambers to the inspiration valve in order to open and close the valve in accordance with the setting of the control system.

Apparatus for enhancing a person's breathing and/or artificial

A respirator, particularly for infants, for supplying respiratory gas to a patient selectively according to an intermittent positive pressure ventilation cycle, an positive end expiratory pressure cycle, a continuous positive airway pressure cycle, and an intermittent mandatory ventilation cycle comprising, a respiration gas supply line connectable to a patient for supplying a respiratory gas to the patient, an expiration valve for switching from an inspiration phase to an expiration phase and back also connectable to the patient, and a first logic element connected to the expiration valve for switching the expiration valve from an inspiration phase to an expiration phase and back again. A pressure control system is connected to the first logic element for supplying gas at selected pressures to the expiration valve for the inspiration and expiration cycles thereof. A time control system is connected to the first logic element and the pressure control system which provides a selected time duration for an inspiration phase and an expiration phase. A source of static control pressure is derived from the respiration gas supply line and the pressure and time control systems both comprise a plurality of logic elements, each connectable to the static control pressure for controlling the inspiration and expiration phase switching, the selected pressures and the selected time durations.

Respirator construction

A respirator for emergency supply to a patient, includes a respiratory gas supply which is connected through two control valves and two regulating valves to a patient. The regulating valves are coupled together by adjusting means which permits their adjustment and one is connected in the gas supply line to the first regulating valve, and the other is connected in the connection from the second regulating valve to the patient. The inhalation and exhalation time of the patient may be adjusted. The valve controls provide a time control which includes a control of the second regulator valve by two separate respirator gas volume connections of predetermined volume amounts which act on the second control valve to shift it into one of two defined positions. The second control valve establishes a respiratory gas connection in the inhaling phase through the second regulating valve and a ventilating valve which is connected directly to the patient.

Respirator for emergency air supply to a patient

A synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation respirator for providing inhalation and exhalation cycles to a patient while permitting the patient to carry out a complete inhalation and exhalation cycle spontaneously, comprising a gas supply adapted to be connected to a patient for supplying breathing gas under pressure to the patient, a main line connected to the gas supplied for supplying breathing gas to the patient, a main valve in the main line, and a timing system connected to the gas supply and the main valve for opening the main valve for a first selected timed inhalation cycle to supply breathing air to the patient and closing the valve for a selected timed exhalation cycle to permit the patient to exhale. A timer is connected to the main line downstream of the main valve, to the gas supply and to the timing system for blocking the connection between the timing system and the gas supply for stopping cycling of the timing system in response to a spontaneous inhalation of the patient and for supplying breathing air to the patient for a second selected timed inhalation cycle, and a trigger is connected to the main line downstream of the main valve and to the timing system for switching the timing system from an exhalation cycle to an inhalation cycle in response to a spontaneous inhalation of the patient.

Respirator

A respirator valve for respirators with a pressure-responsive control of the breathing pulses of a patient, comprises, a valve housing which has a pressure chamber therein with a connecting breathing line to the patient. First and second control diaphragms close respective sides of the pressure chamber and are flexible in response to pressure variations in the pressure chamber. A connecting member disposed between the diaphragms is moved by the flexing of the diaphragms so as to operate a lever mechanism for shifting a valve member to open or close a valve seat in a connecting line to a pressurized breathing gas for supplying the breathing gas into the pressure chamber and into the patient in accordance with variations in the patient's efforts to inhale and to cause pressure variations in the pressure chamber to actuate the diaphragms.

Respirator valve for respirators

The device is of the type in which breathing gas, taken from a pressure-gas supply source through an injector and volumetrically metered in a pressure regulating valve, is supplied, in the inspiration phase, to the user and discharged, in the expiration phase, through an exhaling valve. A control space is divided, by an adjustable partition, into an inspiration chamber and an expiration chamber, and the ratio of the volumes of the two chambers is adjustable by adjustment of the partition. A frequency valve is connected to a source of control gas, and respective first pneumatic control elements connect the chambers, on their upstream sides, to the frequency valve and control supply of control gas to the chambers. Respective second pneumatic control elements connect the downstream sides of the chambers to a bistable storage which is connected to the exhaling valve. The first pneumatic control elements comprise NAND pneumatic elements, and the second pneumatic control elements comprise either identity gates or pairs of NAND elements connected in series with each other. The output sides of the bistable storage are connected to the respective first pneumatic control elements. When the inspiration chamber is filled with control gas, the bistable storage closes the exhaling valve and, when the expiration chamber is filled with control gas, the exhaling valve is opened.

Pneumatically controlled respiration device

The respirator includes a breathing gas supply line connected, through a distribution piece, to a mouthpiece, and also connected to a breathing gas discharge line having interposed therein a control valve controlling discharge of expirated breathing gas, the control valve being switched between opened and closed positions with the aid of a pressure-sensitive control means. An actual value pointer is connected to and operable by the pressure-sensitive control means, and two air barriers are positioned in the range of movement of the pointer for interruption by the pointer. One air barrier constitutes a frequency air barrier which closes the control valve by a pressure signal responsive to interruption of the frequency air barrier by the pointer. The other air barrier constitutes an inspiration-time air barrier which effects opening of the control valve by a pressure signal responsive to interruption of the inspiration-time air barrier by the pointer. The two air barriers are displaceable in the range of movement of the actual-value pointer to provide for simple adjustment of the respiration frequency, the inspiration and expiration time, and the ratio of the inspiration time to the expiration time. The control components are pneumo-logical components, and the frequency air barrier is connected to a charging accumulator controlled by a choke and a capacitance, the charging accumulator being also connected to the pressure-sensitive control means.
