A device for connecting and locking structural panels, particularly floor panels, having a groove forming an upper lip and a lower lip over the entire length of at least one lateral border and with a tongue formed on the opposite lateral border corresponding to the groove. To lock panels that have been connected, the tongue is provided with at least one projection and the groove exhibits at least one indentation on the lip that faces the projection, which device is characterized by the indentation being longer than the projection, and on its lateral border (I, I) the lip provided with at least one indentation exhibits at least one recess reaching back to the indentation. The length of the recess is at least as great as the length of the projection, and seen in the longitudinal direction, the recess and the projection occupy positions that are staggered, one relative to the other.

Structural panels and method of connecting same

A process is proposed for laying and mechanically jointing floorboards provided with tongue and groove engagements on all sides for horizontal attachment. The process involves a) jointing of a number of boards and making them engage on their transverse sides n order to lay a first row on the floor of a room, b) jointing of a first board for a second row and making it engage with one or two boards in the first row using the tongue and groove joint on the longitudinal side for the purpose of starting a second row, c) pushing the tongue (or groove) of a second board into the groove (or tongue) on the transverse side of the first board in the second row, with movement from the longitudinal side towards the boards in the first row, and d) making the second board engage with one or two boards in the first row.

Process of laying floorboards

A wood fiber board ( ) which is provided with a decorative layer ( ) of paper or similar material, and where the length or width value of the decorative layer ( ) deviates from its original value after it is applied to the wood fiber board ( ), is cut into uniform panels using a board-dividing apparatus that compensates for these deviations. The board-dividing apparatus has a saw ( ) that preferably has a plurality of saw blades (S , S , . . . S ) which are adjustably spaced in parallel fashion. The board-dividing apparatus is equipped with a number of cameras and with controller which utilizes deviation measurement information to adjust the spacing of the saw blades. The wood fiber board ( ) is first aligned with at least one initial camera ( ) at a point P . Then, predetermined points (P and P ) in the decorative layer ( ) are recorded by the first camera ( ) and a second camera ( ). A distance (L) between the points (P and P ) is determined, and thee discrepancy in the width or length value is determined by comparison of the actual position and the desired position of the points (P and P ). Then, the value of the determined discrepancy (A) is placed in relation to the number (n) of the saw blades (S ), and the parallel spacing (a) of the saw blades (S ) is modified by the value of the ratio of the discrepancy to the number of saw blades (A/n). The orientation of the wood fiber board ( ) to the saw ( ) is displaced to one side in the amount of one half the determined discrepancy (A), and then the wood fiber board ( ) is transported toward the saw ( ) for cutting out the panels.

Process for cutting out panels or the like

A panel, particularly a floor panel, which exhibits a spring on at least one side and a groove on the opposite side, which features are designed in complementary fashion such that several panels can be connected by inserting one panel into the other, while the spring/groove connection is provided with interlocking portions which prevent the two panels from sliding against the connecting direction, is distinguished by the fact that the spring exhibits a slit that runs parallel to the upper side of the panel and the groove exhibits a wedge-shaped projection at its base.
