A method for efficiently producing a plurality of EAS or RFID tags or inlays that form a label ready for use. The process utilizes a first web of RFID chip straps or capacitor straps that are releasably secured to a liner using only a low tack adhesive and utilizes a second web of coils or antennas which are secured to a second liner. After indexing these two webs, selective heat and pressure are applied to the chips straps or to the capacitor straps to transfer them and electrically couple them to a corresponding coil or antenna. Where both chip straps and capacitor straps are applied to a common antenna, a third web of the additional strap is used in the process.

Transfer tape strap process

A rotary chip attach process and manufacturing approach takes chips (e.g., integrated circuits (ICs)) from a wafer in a rotary process. A chip wafer with a positioning unit is placed over the top of a sprocketed wheel that picks the ICs directly from the wafer and moves them in a semi-continuous in-step motion to a web that will accept the ICs. The sprocketed wheel includes chips that are preferably the same type as used in a typical pick-and-place robotic system, with vacuum heads adapted to pierce the wafer flat membrane (if needed), grab and IC and place and IC as desired. This positioning system keeps the IC's placement in an accurate position on the web, which can be made to move continuously with a plurality of sprocketed wheel placement units in place.

Rotary chip attach process

A poly sheet continuously moving in a machine direction is heated to a temperature just below its glass thermal temperature to make the poly malleable. A circuit (e.g., RFID chip, EAS chip, transponder, IC) is placed on the poly sheet and embedded into the poly sheet, preferably with a heat resistant soft (e.g., rubber) roller that presses the circuit into the poly without breaking the circuit. A conductive strip or wire may be applied on or into the poly sheet to align with connection points (e.g., conductive bumps) of the circuit for conductive communication with the circuit. The conductive strip or wire is preferably cut to form gaps that are nonconductive between the cut sections of wire to avoid shorting of the circuit and/or allow the conductive strip or wire to function as an antenna for the circuit, and thus to form a chip strap or tag. The poly sheet thus provides a protective womb or shield for the circuit and wire.

Device for making an in-mold circuit

A method of making UHF antennas for security tag and antennas thereby. A web of electrically conductive material having a thickness in the range of approximately 5 to approximately 50 microns is releasably secured to a carrier web using a releasably securable adhesive substantially coextensive with the conductive web. A series of antennas of a desired shape are die-cut into the conductive web, but not into the carrier web. The portion of the conductive web not making up the antennas is in the form of scrap and is removed, thereby leaving the series of antennas releasably secured to the carrier sheet. The antennas are arranged to be removed from the carrier sheet, whereupon the releasably securable adhesive is transferred to them, so that they may be subsequently secured to other components to form a security tag.

Process for making UHF antennas for EAS and RFID tags and antennas made thereby

The invention is directed to a security tag (') for protecting an article () against theft, with an electronically detectable first security element () and a covering layer () covering said first security element completely. The covering layer () is covered completely with a label () made of tearable material, which on its side facing the covering layer () is provided with an adhesive whose bonding strength is at least somewhat lower than that of the adhesive applied to the covering layer (). Arranged between the covering layer () and the label () is a second security element (), which overlaps the covering layer () at least in part and is provided on its side facing the covering layer () with an adhesive whose bonding strength is somewhat greater than that of the adhesive applied to the label (). The covering layer () and the second security element () are completely covered by the label (). With this construction of the security tag () it is ensured that a removal of the security elements () from the secured article () is not possible at all or only with great difficulty.

Security tag and method for securing articles

This invention concerns a process and a device for producing strip elements for electronically securing articles and a corresponding produced strip element. The aim of the invention is to present a process, a device, and a strip element which can be economically produced according to said process. As for the process, the aim is achieved in that an endless strip of electronically detectable material is fed and is cut into individual segments of a defined length, in that the individual segments are advanced by means of a conveyor, the speed of which is greater than the speed at which the endless strip is fed, the relative velocity being adjusted to provide the desired interval between two consecutive strip segments, and in that the segments separated by intervals are given a coating on one or both sides.

Process and device for producing electronic anti-theft elements

The present invention is directed to a device and a method for inserting a security and/or identification element between two layers of a marking strip for items of baggage, the two layers being an overlayer and a substrate joined together at least in sub-sections by way of an adhesive layer which adheres to the overlayer when the substrate is delaminated. The marking strips are manufactured with integrated security/identification elements at low cost. The marking strips are available in web form and are guided in a running direction past a vacuum source. The vacuum source is switched on as soon as a severing cut of a marking strip enters the range of action of the vacuum source, whereby the substrate is lifted from the overlayer of a marking strip so that a security/identification element is dispensed onto the overlayer or the substrate, and that the running direction of the marking strip is reversed as soon as the leading section of the security/identification element adheres to the overlayer or the substrate, whereby the overlayer and the substrate of a marking strip are brought together again and the security/identification element is inserted between the two layers.

The present invention is directed to a method and a device for the production of security elements for electronic article surveillance, the security elements being comprised of at least two layers, as well as to a web material manufactured by means of the method the present invention proposes a simple, economical method, a corresponding device for the production of web material, as well as to a web material manufactured by the method for the purpose of electronic article surveillance. With regard to the method of the present invention, it is accomplished in that sections of a predetermined length cut from a second material web are conveyed in a direction transverse to the running direction of a first continuous material web and are applied to the first material web.

Method and device for the production of security elements for electronic article surveillance and corresponding security element

Method and device for producing security elements for electronically securing goods and a corresponding security element

A method of producing a security element for electronically securing an object, a device for producing the security element and the security element itself form aspects of the present invention. The security element includes a strip element embedded in sheathing. The sheathing has a melting temperature below that of the strip element. The method has associated steps and the device has associated elements for producing the security element from the strip element and sheathing. In each aspect, the ends of the strip element and sheathing are heated and the sheathing ends pulled to seal the strip element in the sheathing.

Method and device for producing a security element and a corresponding security element

This invention concerns a process and device for producing anti-theft elements for electronic anti-theft securing of articles. The anti-theft elements are made of at least two layers. The invention also concerns a strip material made using the process. The aim of this invention is to present a simple, economical process, a corresponding device for producing a strip material and a strip material for securing articles electronically which is made by the process. As for the process of this invention, the aim is achieved in that segments of a predetermined length of a second web of material are fed and applied on a first continuous web of material perpendicular to the running direction said first web of material.
