The invention describes the unique finding that UV-curable flexo (and single pass inkjet) ink compositions can be more effectively cured by curing the pigmented ink compositions through two or more exposures to UV rather than a single exposure, where the total UV dose supplied by the multi-exposure approach is the same or less than the dose supplied by the single exposure.

UV-curable ink composition and a UV-cured printing process

The present invention provides a method for providing a printed article, comprising printing an aqueous ink composition onto a fibrous substrate and curing the ink, wherein the ink composition comprises a polyurethane dispersion having the properties of (a) ketone or aldehyde groups present at one or more polymer chain ends; (b) a number average molecular weight ≤50,000 and; (c) the content of ketone and aldehyde groups is in the range 0.02 to 4.0 mmol g-1, based on the dry polymer weight. The present invention also provides use of said ink composition for printing onto a fibrous substrate.

Textile inks

The invention provides an aqueous printing ink composition comprising a polyurethane dispersion, wherein the polyurethane of the polyurethane dispersion comprises the properties of (a) ketone or aldehyde groups present at one or more polymer chain ends; (b) a number average molecular weight &#x2264;50,000, more preferably &#x2264;25,000 and; (c) the content of ketone and/or aldehyde groups is in the range 0.02 to 4.0 mmol g&#x2212;1, based on the dry polymer weight.

Aqueous ink compositions

Water based, energy curable ink jet compositions that have good insulating properties are described herein. The inventive water based energy curable ink jet compositions include a water soluble or water dispersible component polymerizable by free radical polymeration upon exposure to polymerizing radiation, wherein the cured ink jet compositions have good insulating properties, exhibited for example, by its breakdown voltage. The present invention provides a method for printing energy-curable ink and coating compositions that have good adhesion to substrates, good print quality, solvent and scratch resistance, and low potential for migration of uncured monomers. Composite aqueous inkjet fluids

The present invention is drawn to UV-curable ink and coating compositions comprising cleavage type photoinitiators and acids. The acids may be inorganic or organic acids, or acids generated by a photoacid generator during UV-cure. Incorporation of the acids into the UV-curable ink and coating compositions results in a reduction of migratable photodecomposition products that are produced by cleavage type photoinitiators during UV-cure. The ink and coating compositions are particularly useful for use in applications that require low migration of low molecular weight materials, such as, for example, food packaging.

The present invention is drawn to UV-curable ink and coating compositions comprising acylphosphine oxide photoinitiators and acids. The acids may be inorganic or organic acids, or acids generated by a photoacid generator during UV-cure. Described herein are polymeric aminoacrylates formed by the reaction of polyalkylene glycol diacrylates with bireactive amines. The polymeric aminoacrylate are comprised of moieties of poly(alkylene glycol) diacrylate and moieties of bireactive amines. Also described herein are energy curable ink and coating compositions that include the described polymeric aminoacrylates. The energy curable ink and coating compositions that include the described polymeric aminoacrylates are well-suited for use in packaging applications where low migration of uncured monomer material after cure is desired, such as in the packaging of foodstuffs, pharmaceuticals, etc.

The present invention is directed to an energy curable ink or coating composition comprising a low migration photoinitiator, and at least one multifunctional hybrid monomer having a polymerizable (meth)acrylate group and a polymerizable vinylether group, and electrically insulating dielectric layers for use in printed electronic devices formed upon curing the ink or coating composition.

Electrically-insulating energy-curable inkjet fluids

The present invention provides energy-curable compositions comprising aminoacrylates produced by the Michael addition reaction of any blend of highly alkoxylated monomers with any blend of mono- and/or bireactive amines. Suitable highly alkoxylated monomers include, but are not limited to, poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylates, poly(propylene glycol) diacrylates, and ethoxylated trimethylolpropane triacrylates. The alkoxylated monomers have a degree of alkoxylation equal to or greater than 2.0 per functional group. The compositions of the present invention further comprise greater than 10% (w/w) of any blend of monomers having molecular weights of less than 1000 Daltons.
