In an aspect, a mold stack may comprise two adjacent components, one at least partially defining a vent adjustable between a molding configuration and a cleaning configuration. A junction of the components may be adjustable between a molding configuration, wherein mating faces contact one another to define a parting line, and a cleaning configuration, wherein mating faces are separated to create a molding cavity extension therebetween and an auxiliary melt barrier prevents uncontrolled flashing from the extension.

Disclosed herein, amongst other things, is, a stripper assembly operable to eject a molded article from a mold that includes slides that are movable laterally relative to each, a first split mold insert inter-connected to a first slide and a second split mold insert inter-connected to a second slide. The system being operable such that when the first and second slides are in the closed position, the first and second split mold inserts form at least a portion of the molding cavity; the system being operable such that such during operation of the injection molding system, the first split mold insert is movable relative to the respective first slide and the second split mold insert being movable relative to the second slide.

In an aspect, a mold stack may comprise two adjacent components, one at least partially defining a vent adjustable between a molding configuration and a cleaning configuration. Lock ring for use in a mold stack

There is provided a molding stack assembly () for producing a molded article (), the molded article () including a neck finish () which includes a support ledge (), the molded article () suitable for subsequent blow-molding into a final shaped container. The molding stack assembly () comprises a core insert (), a lock ring (), a split mold insert (), a cavity flange () and a cavity insert () for jointly defining, in use, a molding cavity () for forming the molded article (), the split mold insert () and the cavity flange () defining a split line () therebetween, the split line () being defined substantially along a portion of the support ledge (); a biasing member () disposed, in use, between the cavity flange () and the cavity insert (), the biasing member () being configured to: (a) under applied clamp force, to allow the cavity flange () to abut the cavity insert (); and (b) during initial stages of the mold operation to bias the cavity flange () away from the cavity insert ().

Mold stack for a preform

Disclosed herein is, amongst other things, a molding apparatus that includes a core ring () that is configured to seat, in use, around a core insert () in a mold stack (). The core ring () is configured to be received, at least in part, within a pocket () that is defined within a split insert () of the mold stack (). The core ring () is also configured to define at least a portion of a molding cavity () having a core ring-to-split insert parting line () that is within the pocket () of the split insert ().

Molding apparatus

Disclosed herein are, amongst other things, a molding apparatus with which to mold, in use, a preform of a type for blow molding into a container. The molding apparatus includes a lock ring () for use in a first stack portion () of a mold stack (). There is provided a stripper assembly () for use in a mold stack () for forming a preform () suitable for blow-molding into a final-shaped container. The stripper assembly () comprises a stripper plate () connectable, in use, to a stripper plate actuator; neck rings () configured to cooperate to define a portion a neck region () of the preform (); a stripper ring () configured to define at least a portion of a top sealing surface of the neck region () of the preform (); the stripper plate () being configured to actuate the neck rings () and the stripper ring (), in unison, along substantially the whole length of a complete ejection path, which is substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis of the mold stack (); and wherein the neck rings () are configured for movement in a direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the mold stack, over at a portion of the complete ejection path, the stripper ring () having an air channel () configured to directed a flow of fluid towards the preform.

According to embodiments of the present invention, there is provided a cavity insert for a molding system, the cavity insert having a deformable portion. More specifically, A cavity insert () is provided, the cavity insert () is for a molding stack () for use in an injection mold, the cavity insert (). The cavity insert () comprises a body () configured to be received, in use, within a cavity plate () of the injection mold; the body () defining: a cavity molding surface () along an inner portion thereof; a circumferentially deformable portion (); and an actuator interface () configured to cooperate, in use, with a complementary actuating interface () that is defined on a compression member () to generate a compressive force that selectively elastically deforms the circumferentially deformable portion ().

Method of producing a molded article using a deformable cavity insert and deformable cavity insert for a molding system

According to embodiments of the present invention, there is provided a stripper assembly and a mold stack incorporating same. More specifically, there is provided the stripper assembly () for use in a mold stack () for forming a preform () suitable for blow-molding into a final-shaped container. The stripper assembly () comprises a stripper plate () connectable, in use, to a stripper plate actuator; neck rings () configured to cooperate to define a portion a neck region () of the preform (); a stripper ring () configured to define at least a portion of a top sealing surface of the neck region () of the preform (); the stripper plate () being configured to actuate the neck rings () and the stripper ring (), in unison, along substantially the whole length of a complete ejection path, which is substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis of the mold stack (); and wherein the neck rings () are configured for movement in a direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the mold stack, over at a portion of the complete ejection path, whereby at a completion of the complete ejection path, the stripper ring () and the neck rings () render the preform () removable from the mold stack ().
