The present disclosure relates to a method that includes processing, in a hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) reactor, at least one of a VFA-derived ketone and/or a co-processing stream to produce a composition that is at least partially bioderived, as determined by ASTM-D6866.

Fuels and methods of making the same

Treating pyrolysis oil to yield a liquid fuel or liquid fuel precursor includes combining the pyrolysis oil with one or more co-solvents to yield a mixture, and hydrotreating the mixture to yield the liquid fuel or liquid fuel precursor. The co-solvent can include one or more alcohols. The liquid fuel can be a transportation fuel, such as gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, or marine fuel. The liquid fuel precursor can be a transportation fuel precursor, such as a gasoline precursor, a diesel fuel precursor, a jet fuel precursor, or a marine fuel precursor.

Renewable co-solvents for thermochemical bio-oil processing

An aspect of the present disclosure is a method that includes a first reacting a molecule from at least one of a carboxylic acid, an ester of a carboxylic acid, and/or an anhydride with ammonia to form a nitrile, where the first reacting is catalyzed using an acid catalyst. In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the molecule may include at least one of acetic acid, lactic acid, and/or 3-hydroxyproprionic acid (3-HPA). In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the molecule may include at least one of methyl acetate, ethyl lactate, and/or ethyl 3-hydroxypropanoate (ethyl 3-HP). In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the anhydride may be acetic anhydride.

Systems and methods for producing nitriles

Described herein are compositions and methods for the storage and release of hydrogen gas using covalent organic frameworks (COFs). Advantageously, the compositions and methods described herein may be used for the facile and rapid release of hydrogen gas at near ambient temperatures. The described COFs allow for photoactivation, where the release of gas is initiated or the rate of release is increased with the COF is exposed to electromagnetic radiation, for example, UV light.

Photo triggered covalent organic frameworks and methods of using

The present disclosure relates to a composition that includes copper (Cu), aluminum (Al), oxygen, and an element (M) that includes at least one of magnesium, cerium, and/or a transition metal, where the copper and the element are present at a first molar ratio relative to the aluminum between about 0.1:1 and about 30:1 ((Cu+M):Al), and the copper and the element are present at a second molar ratio between about 0.1:4 and about 20:1 (Cu:M).

This disclosure relates to compositions and methods for converting biomass to various chemical intermediates and final products including fuels. Aspects include the depolymerization of lignin, cellulose, and hemicellulose to a wide slate of depolymerization compounds that can be subsequently metabolized by genetically modified bacterium, and converted to cis,cis-muconic acid. Other aspects include the use of monometallic catalysts for converting the cis,cis-muconic acid to commodity chemicals and fuels, for example adipic acid and/or nylon.
