A computing system includes a base processing device, as well as a display device having a screen. In an attached mode, the base processing device is mechanically attached to the base processing device, and is to display a user interface on the display device using a mechanical data connection between the base processing device and the display device. An example system can comprise a memory to store machine readable instructions. The system can also comprise a processing unit to execute the machine readable instructions. The machine readable instructions can a server can comprise a codec selector to dynamically partition a video stream into a plurality of partitions based on graphical elements of the video stream, such that a given frame of the video stream is divided into the plurality of partitions. The codec selector can also select a plurality of different codecs to compress the plurality of partitions based on the graphical elements of the video stream.

Video conferencing systems and methods are provided. A video conferencing system can include an audio/video (A/V) data path coupling a plurality of network devices. The system can further include at least one input/output (I/O) device providing I/O data coupled to at least one of the plurality of network devices. The I/O data is communicated along the A/V data path to each of the plurality of network devices.

Single Logical Screen and Direct Hardware Access in a 3D environment are combined by passing a single stream of protocol to the X Server, which in turn passes the information to multiple 3D rendering processes for display on individual screens (monitors). Multiple instances of a single daemon implement the rendering processes. The X Server communicates with an instance of the daemon functioning as a master daemon, which in turn controls the remaining instances functioning as slave daemons. All daemons communicate through common shared memory segments. This achieves both efficiency and performance, since duplicated distribution of commands and data is avoided. Each of the daemons is driven by the contents of the shared memory segments. To facilitate this, an X Client, the X Server and the daemons are all interconnected with separate control and data paths.

A single logical screen display system includes a client process, a master server process and plural slave server processes. Each of the slave server processes runs on a separate remote computer system. The master server process maintains network connections with the client process and with each of the slave server processes. The client process issues single logical screen window system requests to the master server process. The master server process issues physical screen window system requests to the slave server processes. Each slave server process controls one of a plurality of physical display devices. The plural physical display devices comprise a composite display on which the single logical screen appears.

A method for handling events in an X Window System environment is disclosed. First and second events are detected in first and second server processes, respectively. First event data corresponding to the first event is stored in a first event cache associated with the first server process. Second event data corresponding to the second event is stored in a second event cache associated with the second server process. The first and second server processes are polled to determine whether they have detected any events. If it is determined that both the first and second server processes have detected events, the first and second event data is requeted from the first and second server processes. The first and second event data is coalesced into coalesced event data. The coalesced event data is delivered to a client process.
