Disclosed herein is a nozzle tip that atomizes a liquid entering a vessel or reaction zone that contains circulating fluidized particulates where the nozzle tip comprises a first elongated slot that intersects with a second elongated slot to define a single orifice. The first elongated slot may have members protruding into it and the slots may intersect substantially orthogonally and bisect each other. The length of the minor axis of the first slot ranges form about 5% to about 50% of the length of the major axis of the first slot and the length of the minor axis of the second slot ranges form about 1% to about 10 % or the major axis of the second slot. This nozzle tip affords erosion reduction caused by the circulating fluidized particulates and therefore provides longer operational lifetimes for the nozzle tip.

Nozzle for use in fluidized catalytic cracking

The present invention provides a reactor design that enables an auto-thermal cracking process to be conducted at any suitable pressure wherein the gaseous reactants are preheated separately before mixing and then presented to the reaction zone in a uniformly distributed manner. In particular, the present invention-relates to apparatus for reacting a first and second gaseous reactant to form a gaseous product wherein the apparatus comprises at least one first supply means for the first gaseous reactant, at least one second supply means for the second gaseous reactant, a resistance zone and a reaction zone, preferably comprising a catalyst, wherein the first supply means comprises a plurality of first outlets for delivery of the first gaseous reactant, and the second supply means comprises a plurality of second outlets for delivery of the second gaseous reactant, the resistance zone is porous, the reaction zone is positioned downstream of the resistance zone with respect to the flow of the first and second gaseous reactants and wherein the first supply means and the second supply means are arranged such that the first gas and the second gas are contacted in an essentially parallel manner and mixed prior to contacting the resistance zone. The present invention also provides a process for the production of a mono-olefin utilizing said apparatus.

Autothermal cracking process and reactor

Process for the oxidation of a hydrocarbon comprising partially oxidizing in a reaction zone, a mixture comprising a hydrocarbon and an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a catalyst which is capable of supporting oxidation of the hydrocarbon. Prior to the partial oxidation, the mixture comprising the hydrocarbon and the oxygen-containing gas is passed through a heat exchanger which provides a pressure drop which acts to even the velocity profile and ensure that the reactants flow uniformly over the catalyst.

Process for the catalytic oxidation of hydrocarbons

A process for the production of an olefin comprising partially combusting in a reaction zone a mixture of a hydrocabon and an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a catalyst which is capable of supporting combustion beyond the fuel rich limit of flammability to produce the olefin. Prior the partial combustion, the mixture of the hydrocabon and the oxygen-containg gas is passed through a heat excahanger, and the heat exchanger provides a pressure drop.

Apparatus for introducing a fluid into a process stream such as promoter into the feed stream of a reactor for manufacturing vinyl acetate comprises: (a) a process stream pipe having a bend and (b) a nozzle for introducing the fluid into the process stream downstream of the bend characterised in that the pipe has a flow-correction device downstream of the bend and the nozzle is mounted downstream of the flow-correction device to an end of a support arm which extends into the pipe in a direction substantially parallel to the direction of the pipe downstream of the bend.

Apparatus for introducing fluid into a process stream

Process for producing an olefin polymer of a low polydispersity index having low catalyst residues and low chlorine content, by polymerizing olefins in solution in the presence of a cationic catalyst, in a reactor containing a liquid phase comprising a liquid boiling hydrocarbon polymerization medium and having a vapor space above the liquid phase. The polymerization is carried out in the presence of a non-mechanical agent capable of suppressing foam formation during the polymerization.

Process for polymerizing olefins

Process for the liquid phase oxidation of butane to produce acetic acid in which oxygen and butane are reacted in the presence of a cobalt catalyst in a liquid reaction composition in an oxidation reaction zone at a temperature in the reaction zone in the range of 136.degree. to 150.degree. C., while continuously maintaining a concentration of oxygen throughout the reaction zone equivalent to a partial pressure of oxygen greater than two bar. The concentration of cobalt oxidation catalyst in the liquid reaction composition is at least 0.12% by weight cobalt and up to its limit of solubility in the liquid reaction composition.

Process for the production of acetic acid

A process for controlling the molecular weight distribution of polyisobutene formed during a liquid phase polymersiation reaction using a catalyst comprising boron trifluoride and taking place in a reactor having condensers associated with it which process involves introducing an electron donor above the level of liquid in the reactor to minimize the reaction of isobutene with free gaseous boron trifluoride in the condensers thereby minimizing the formation of unwanted polymers.

Isobutene polymerization process

The present invention relates a process for uniformly mixing heterogeneous or multiphase systems comprising a continuous phase and at least a solid, dispersed phase in a pulsatile flow reactor (PUFR) as herein defined wherein the uniform mixing is carried out by actuating means for pulsing the continuous phase. The PUFR can be used in its horizontal or vertical orientation. The PUFR is useful for example to carry out the catalytic polymerization of olefins in a heterogeneous phase.

Method of mixing heterogeneous systems

An apparatus and method for effecting mass or heat transfer between the bulk of a fluid and a transfer surface boundary layer comprises a conduit having transverse baffles spaced apart from the transfer surface such that vortex mixing is induced in fluid passed along the conduit in pulsed flow. The transfer surface may be a membrane suitable for microfiltration, ultrafiltration or pervaporation.
