A refuse vehicle includes a frame, a cab coupled to the frame and positioned at a front end of the refuse vehicle, a body assembly coupled to the frame and defining a refuse compartment, the body assembly positioned behind the cab, and an electrical energy system configured to provide electric power to drive one or more wheels of the refuse vehicle, the electrical energy system comprising a first set of one or more battery cells and control hardware, the electrical energy system detachably coupled to the frame at a first position between the cab and the body assembly.

A fault detection system for a vehicle is shown. The system includes an electrical control unit configured to control one or more electrical systems on the vehicle, a power source, and a wire harness. The wire harness includes a plurality of wires, the plurality of wires including (i) a first wire electrically coupled to the electrical control unit and one or more sensors and (ii) a second wire electrically coupled to the power source and at least one of the one or more electrical systems. The second wire is enclosed within a protective covering. The electrical control unit is configured to monitor a resistance or conductance of the second wire via the one or more sensors and detect a wire conductivity fault in the second wire.

A refuse vehicle includes a chassis, a body assembly, and an automated reach arm. The body assembly is coupled to the chassis and defines a refuse compartment configured to store refuse material. The automated reach arm includes a refuse container engagement mechanism, at least one electrically driven actuation mechanism, a first slew motor, and a second slew motor. The refuse container engagement mechanism is configured to selectively engage a refuse container. The at least one electrically driven actuation mechanism is configured to selectively actuate the automated reach arm between an extended position, a retracted position, and a refuse-dumping position. The first slew motor is configured to selectively swing the automated reach arm with respect to the body assembly about a first axis. The second slew motor is configured to selectively swing the refuse container engagement mechanism with respect to a second axis that is parallel to the first axis.

The container includes a base and a container wall extending around a periphery of the base. A side of the container wall and the base define a recess. The collection arm includes an extension mechanism and a refuse container engagement mechanism configured to engage with a refuse container. The extension arm mechanism includes an extendable arm positioned beneath the container wall and extending laterally through the base, a chain or a rack disposed along the extendable arm, a rotational actuator positioned within the recess, and a pinion coupled to the rotational actuator. The pinion is positioned to interface with the chain or the rack disposed along the extendable arm. The pinion is selectively driven by the rotational actuator to facilitate extending the extendable arm laterally outward from the side and the recess.

The modular E-PTO also includes a motor, an inverter, a battery, and a hydraulic pump positioned within the modular housing. The body mounting member has brackets that define a cavity and retaining slots. The top member of the chassis mounting member may be received within the cavity defined by the brackets. The spring assembly includes a spring, a bolt, and a nut. The retainer plate includes a slot. The bolt further extends through a top member of the chassis mounting member and the slot of the retainer plate and receives the nut. The bolt is received within the retaining slots during removal of the bolt to prohibit the bolt from coming in contact with the battery.

A refuse vehicle includes a chassis, an energy storage device, a vehicle body, an electric power take-off system, and a hydraulic component. The energy storage device is supported by the chassis and is configured to provide electrical power to a prime mover. Activation of the prime mover selectively drives the refuse vehicle. The vehicle body is supported by the chassis, and includes an on-board receptacle for storing refuse therein. The electric power take-off system is positioned on the vehicle body, and includes an electric motor configured to drive a hydraulic pump to convert electrical power received from the energy storage device into hydraulic power. An amount of electrical power at least one of received by and provided to the electric motor is limited by a controller to control an output characteristic of the hydraulic pump. The hydraulic component is in fluid communication with the hydraulic pump and configured to operate using hydraulic power from the electric power take-off system.

An electric power take-off system includes a motor configured to convert electrical power received from a battery into hydraulic power, an inverter configured to provide electrical power to the motor from the battery, a heat dissipation device in thermal communication with the inverter, wherein the heat dissipation device includes a thermal fluid pump configured to pump cooling fluid through a plurality of conduits, a flow meter configured determine a flow rate through the plurality of conduits, and a controller configured to receive data from the flow meter and provide operating parameters to the heat dissipation device, wherein the controller is further configured to determine if the data from the flow meter is less than a critical operating condition and decrease the hydraulic power provided by the electric power take-off system in response to determining that the data from the flow meter is less than the critical operating condition.
