Hearing instruments, such as hearing aids, may improve a quality of presented audio through the use of a binaural application, such as beamforming. The binaural application may require communication between the hearing instruments so that audio from a left hearing instrument may be combined with audio from a right hearing instrument. The combining at a hearing instrument can require synchronizing audio sampled locally with sampled audio received from wireless communication. This synchronization may cause a noticeable delay of an output of the binaural application if the latency of the wireless communication is not low (e.g., a few samples of delay). Presented herein is a low-latency communication protocol that communicates packets on a sample-by-sample basis and that compensates for delays caused by overhead protocol data transmitted with the audio data.

Low-latency communication protocol for binaural applications

A neural network implementation is disclosed. The implementation allows the computations for the neural network to be performed on either an accelerator or a processor. The accelerator and the processor share a memory and communicate over a bus to perform the computations and to share data. The implementation uses weight compression and pruning, as well as parallel processing, to reduce computing, storage, and power requirements.

A system, in some embodiments, comprises: an antenna; a receiver, coupled to the antenna, to receive wireless signals from another electronic device; a signal processor (SP) coupled to the receiver; and a phase locked loop (PLL), distributed among the receiver and the SP, to synchronize the frequency of a data sampling clock used by the SP with the frequency of a source clock determined by the receiver.

Method of forming a semiconductor device and structure therefor

A reconfigurable processing unit for a digital hearing instrument includes an IS processor module, a plurality of processing units and a crosspoint switch matrix. The IS processor module receives a hearing instrument configuration. Each of the processing modules are configured to process audio signals received by the digital hearing instrument. The crosspoint switch matrix is coupled to the IS processor module and each of the processing modules, and includes at least one crosspoint switch that is configured to route audio signals between processing modules and to combine at least two audio signals. In addition, the IS processor module uses the hearing instrument configuration to program the configuration of the crosspoint switch and thereby control how the crosspoint switch matrix routes and combines audio signals.

Low-power reconfigurable hearing instrument

A variable power supply technique for use with a high efficiency line driver uses a signal peak amplitude to determine a start of a rise time for a power supply to begin supplying operating voltage to the line driver. This ensures that the voltage supplied to the line driver essentially tracks the output signal. A slew start delay circuit detects when the signal rises above a level that can be supported by a current power supply, and determines a variable delay for switching on a power supply to supply a higher voltage to the line driver. The advantages include reduced power usage, less heat dissipation, and the ability to select a primary power supply that outputs a lower voltage.
