A current sensor positioned on a power line monitors current draw associated with an electrical motor driven shaft based device, such as a scroll compressor. Mechanical vibrations in the scroll compressor force stress on the motor shaft of the scroll compressor, directly influencing current draw. By monitoring current draw, vibrations resulting from problems in the compressor, such as a broken mounting bracket, can be detected. A controller receives the current values and indicates if a current value exceeds a threshold current value or if a plurality of current values exceed a threshold value.

A humidity control system employed on a container refrigeration unit, and method of controlling the container humidity, that includes a computer controller and utilizes a humidity sensor, a moisture supply system in combination with output drivers to control and limit the level of relative humidity level within a cargo container to a predetermined range when normal refrigeration system controls are active. The humidity control system operates the moisture supply system in a manner that significantly maintains a high, but not excessive, level of moisture in the circulating air and in the stored cargo. The humidity control system can also be configured to operate as a stand-alone system thereby eliminating the need to provide additional evaporator fan controls for the refrigeration unit.

Pre-trip operational methods and procedures for automatically checking predetermined functions and the operating performance of a controlled atmosphere system for a refrigerated container. The system includes an electronic control and electrically controlled components including an air compressor, a filter having a drain valve, a heater, a nonelectric membrane separator and two or more flow control valves for varying the purity and the flow from the membrane separator. Various pressure, temperature and safety control devices are provided in the system. The methods include display tests of the indicator lights and display segments on the controller, tests of the drain valves on the filters and of the flow control valves. Tests of the heater and its control and safety mechanisms are carried out. Automatic tests are conducted of the oxygen sensor and CO.sub.2 sensor including span tests and zero point value tests. Tests of the membrane assembly are conducted to determine if the required purity of nitrogen can be generated from the membrane separator. Pass or fail indications are provided via a display which indicates the test being conducted and the result of the test.
