A wireless device () configures a carrier for communication with a serving access point (). The wireless device () maintains a virtual carrier sense timer. The virtual carrier sense timer indicates that the carrier is to be regarded as occupied as long as the virtual carrier sense timer is not expired. The wireless device () receives one or more wireless transmissions on the carrier. The one or more wireless transmissions each include: an identifier commonly assigned to multiple access points which cooperate by sharing a transmission opportunity, and a duration field for indicating a duration for which the carrier is expected to be occupied. In response to the identifier matching an identifier of the serving access point (), the wireless device () updates the virtual carrier sense timer according to the indicated duration. Based on the virtual carrier sense timer, the wireless device () controls one or more UL wireless transmissions from the wireless device ().

Control of uplink wireless transmissions in shared TXOP

Techniques for enhancing performance in Industrial Internet-of-Things (IIoT) scenarios, including techniques for time-sensitive networking (TSN) and 5G wireless network integration. An example method, performed by a wireless device, comprises receiving system information (SI) from a radio base station (RBS) of a radio access network (RAN), the SI being indicative of support for TSN through the RBS, and establishing at least one TSN stream with an external data network, through the RBS. The example method further includes receiving a first timing signal from the wireless communications network, via the RBS, receiving a second timing signal from the external TSN data network to which the wireless device is connected, comparing the first timing signal to the second timing signal to determine an offset, and transmitting the offset to the wireless communications network.

Methods and apparatus in a fifth-generation wireless communications, including an example method, in a wireless device, that includes receiving a downlink signal comprising an uplink access configuration index, using the uplink access configuration index to identify an uplink access configuration from among a predetermined plurality of uplink access configurations, and transmitting to the wireless communications network according to the identified uplink access configuration. The example method further includes, in the same wireless device, receiving, in a first subframe, a first Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) transmission formatted according to a first numerology and receiving, in a second subframe, a second OFDM transmission formatted according to a second numerology, the second numerology differing from the first numerology. Variants of this method, corresponding apparatuses, and corresponding network-side methods and apparatuses are also disclosed.

Network architecture, methods, and devices for a wireless communications network

A packet format is disclosed for transmission of data packets over a communication channel, wherein transmission of one of the data packets utilizes a frequency bandwidth, and wherein the frequency bandwidth is dynamically variable between data packets. The packet format defines a frequency bandwidth detection field, wherein the frequency bandwidth detection field of a data packet has a first field content or a second field content, and wherein corresponding parts of the first and second field contents are orthogonal to each other. The first field content is indicative of that transmission of the data packet utilizes a first frequency bandwidth and the second field content is indicative of that transmission of the data packet utilizes a frequency bandwidth which is larger than the first frequency bandwidth. Corresponding methods and apparatuses for transmission/reception of data packets are also disclosed.

In one aspect, a method for detecting changes in distance between a first wireless device and a second wireless device is provided. The method comprises determining a variation of a parameter over time, based on measurements of first timing signals transmitted between the first and second wireless devices. The variation of the parameter depends on a distance between the wireless devices, and comprises periodic step transitions as a result of relative clock drift between the wireless devices. The method further comprises predicting a time at which a periodic step transition is expected to occur based on the variation of the parameter, and determining a value of the parameter based on measurements of second timing signals. In response to a determination that the determined value of the parameter differs from an expected value of the parameter, it is determined that the distance between the wireless devices has changed.

Methods and apparatus in a fifth-generation wireless communications network, including an example method, in a wireless device, that includes determining a reporting quality threshold for a parameter related to channel state information (CSI); performing a measurement for each of a plurality of beams from a first predetermined set of beams for evaluation; evaluating the measurement for each of the plurality of beams against the reporting quality threshold; discontinuing the performing and evaluating of measurements in response to determining that the reporting quality threshold is met for one of the beams, such that one or more beams in the first predetermined set of beams are not measured and evaluated; and reporting, to the wireless communications network, CSI for the one of the beams.

Methods, apparatus, and device-readable mediums are disclosed relating to wireless access in a network requiring a carrier-sense mechanism. One aspect provides a method performed by a transmitting device for transmitting to a receiving device in a wireless communications network. The transmitting device comprises a plurality of antenna elements. The method comprises: performing a directional carrier-sense assessment for one or more sub-bands configured for transmissions between the transmitting device and the receiving device, the directional carrier-sense assessment utilizing beamforming to detect a respective level of wireless activity on each of the sub-bands in a particular direction for transmissions to the receiving device; selecting a respective transmit power for each sub-band based on the determined level of wireless activity; and transmitting to the receiving device in the particular direction, using the respective selected transmit power for each sub-band.

Methods, apparatus and device-readable mediums relating to wireless access in a network requiring a carrier-sense mechanism

A method is performed by a wireless transmitting device for a communication network. The communication network implements a standard in which transmitting devices contend for access to a wireless transmission medium, a transmitting device being permitted to transmit using the wireless transmission medium for a window of time upon winning contention. The method includes: initiating a first, initial transmission to one or more wireless receiving devices in the window of time, the first transmission including a first preamble; and, subsequent to the first transmission, initiating a second transmission to one or more wireless receiving devices in the window of time, the second transmission including a second preamble which is shorter than the first preamble, or including no preamble.

An approach for transmission provides a method of enabling Hybrid Automatic Request, HARQ, in an IEEE 802.11 communication. A method of a first access point and an access point arranged to provide wireless communication access for a wireless communication system are disclosed. Simultaneous uplink and downlink transmission using multiple access points

A method for a primary wireless transmitter is disclosed. The primary wireless transmitter is configured to participate in transmission to a wireless receiver using spatial multiplexing in coordination with one or more secondary wireless transmitters. The method comprises assigning—from a collection of available channel sounding resources—respective channel sounding resources to the primary wireless transmitter and to the one or more secondary wireless transmitters, wherein each available channel sounding resource is assigned to at most one of the wireless transmitters. Each assigned respective channel sounding resource is for transmission of a respective non-spatial-multiplexed first channel sounding signal, and the first channel sounding signals are for phase tracking of signals transmitted by the primary wireless transmitter and/or for phase tracking of signals transmitted by the one or more secondary wireless transmitters.
