Techniques for enhancing performance in Industrial Internet-of-Things (IIoT) scenarios, including techniques for time-sensitive networking (TSN) and 5G wireless network integration. An example method, performed by a wireless device, comprises receiving system information (SI) from a radio base station (RBS) of a radio access network (RAN), the SI being indicative of support for TSN through the RBS, and establishing at least one TSN stream with an external data network, through the RBS. The example method further includes receiving a first timing signal from the wireless communications network, via the RBS, receiving a second timing signal from the external TSN data network to which the wireless device is connected, comparing the first timing signal to the second timing signal to determine an offset, and transmitting the offset to the wireless communications network.

Methods and apparatus in a fifth-generation wireless communications, including an example method, in a wireless device, that includes receiving a downlink signal comprising an uplink access configuration index, using the uplink access configuration index to identify an uplink access configuration from among a predetermined plurality of uplink access configurations, and transmitting to the wireless communications network according to the identified uplink access configuration. The example method further includes, in the same wireless device, receiving, in a first subframe, a first Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) transmission formatted according to a first numerology and receiving, in a second subframe, a second OFDM transmission formatted according to a second numerology, the second numerology differing from the first numerology. Variants of this method, corresponding apparatuses, and corresponding network-side methods and apparatuses are also disclosed.

Network architecture, methods, and devices for a wireless communications network

A packet format is disclosed for transmission of data packets over a communication channel, wherein transmission of one of the data packets utilizes a frequency bandwidth, and wherein the frequency bandwidth is dynamically variable between data packets. The packet format defines a frequency bandwidth detection field, wherein the frequency bandwidth detection field of a data packet has a first field content or a second field content, and wherein corresponding parts of the first and second field contents are orthogonal to each other. The first field content is indicative of that transmission of the data packet utilizes a first frequency bandwidth and the second field content is indicative of that transmission of the data packet utilizes a frequency bandwidth which is larger than the first frequency bandwidth. Corresponding methods and apparatuses for transmission/reception of data packets are also disclosed.

An access point of a wireless communication system configures a carrier for communication with one or more wireless devices associated with the access point. Based on a backoff counter maintained by the access point, the access point contends for access to the carrier to transmit data. In response to another access point winning contention for access to the carrier, the access point cooperates at least with the access point winning the contention by sharing a transmission opportunity reserved on the carriers by the access point winning the contention and transmitting at least a part of the data in the shared transmission opportunity. During the shared transmission opportunity the access point pauses the backoff counter.

An access point () of a wireless communication system configures a carrier for communication with one or more wireless devices () associated with the access point (). Further, the access point () contends for access to the carrier and, in response to winning contention for access to the carrier, reserves a transmission opportunity, TXOP, on the carrier. Further, the access point () cooperates with one or more other access points () of the wireless communication system by sharing the TXOP based on spatial multiplexing of wireless transmissions on the carrier.

Methods are disclosed for communication devices capable of simultaneous transmission and reception, wherein a first method is for reception of a packet comprising a header and a payload and a second method is for transmission of a packet comprising a header and a payload. The first method comprises receiving at least a part of the header, attempting to decode the part of the header, and (when the part of the header is successfully decoded) transmitting a header acknowledgement signal. Acknowledgement for simultaneous transmission and reception

In one aspect, a method for detecting changes in distance between a first wireless device and a second wireless device is provided. The method comprises determining a variation of a parameter over time, based on measurements of first timing signals transmitted between the first and second wireless devices. The variation of the parameter depends on a distance between the wireless devices, and comprises periodic step transitions as a result of relative clock drift between the wireless devices. The method further comprises predicting a time at which a periodic step transition is expected to occur based on the variation of the parameter, and determining a value of the parameter based on measurements of second timing signals. In response to a determination that the determined value of the parameter differs from an expected value of the parameter, it is determined that the distance between the wireless devices has changed.

Methods, apparatus and device-readable mediums for detecting changes in distance between wireless devices

Methods and apparatus in a fifth-generation wireless communications network, including an example method, in a wireless device, that includes determining a reporting quality threshold for a parameter related to channel state information (CSI); performing a measurement for each of a plurality of beams from a first predetermined set of beams for evaluation; evaluating the measurement for each of the plurality of beams against the reporting quality threshold; discontinuing the performing and evaluating of measurements in response to determining that the reporting quality threshold is met for one of the beams, such that one or more beams in the first predetermined set of beams are not measured and evaluated; and reporting, to the wireless communications network, CSI for the one of the beams.

Methods, apparatus, and device-readable mediums are disclosed relating to wireless access in a network requiring a carrier-sense mechanism. One aspect provides a method performed by a transmitting device for transmitting to a receiving device in a wireless communications network. The transmitting device comprises a plurality of antenna elements. The method comprises: performing a directional carrier-sense assessment for one or more sub-bands configured for transmissions between the transmitting device and the receiving device, the directional carrier-sense assessment utilizing beamforming to detect a respective level of wireless activity on each of the sub-bands in a particular direction for transmissions to the receiving device; selecting a respective transmit power for each sub-band based on the determined level of wireless activity; and transmitting to the receiving device in the particular direction, using the respective selected transmit power for each sub-band.

Methods, apparatus and device-readable mediums relating to wireless access in a network requiring a carrier-sense mechanism

A method is performed by a wireless transmitting device for a communication network. The communication network implements a standard in which transmitting devices contend for access to a wireless transmission medium, a transmitting device being permitted to transmit using the wireless transmission medium for a window of time upon winning contention. The method includes: initiating a first, initial transmission to one or more wireless receiving devices in the window of time, the first transmission including a first preamble; and, subsequent to the first transmission, initiating a second transmission to one or more wireless receiving devices in the window of time, the second transmission including a second preamble which is shorter than the first preamble, or including no preamble.

An approach for transmission provides a method of enabling Hybrid Automatic Request, HARQ, in an IEEE 802.11 communication. The method includes transmitting, in an element in a Block Acknowledgement, BA, setup of a Medium Access Control, MAC, message, which element indicates a request to use HARQ, receiving a response to said request, and starting to apply HARQ. The approach includes a network entity of a wireless network using IEEE 802.11. A method of a first access point and an access point arranged to provide wireless communication access for a wireless communication system are disclosed. The method comprises determining that a first station is to transmit uplink data in an uplink transmission at a first frequency band in the unlicensed spectrum, assigning a second access point for receiving the uplink transmission, wherein the second access point is covering at least an overlapping area with a coverage area of the first access point, determining a second station targeted for downlink transmission, wherein the downlink transmission is scheduled for at least partly simultaneous transmission with the uplink transmission from the first station and at least partly overlapping the first frequency band, wherein a selection of the second station targeted for downlink transmission is based on a spatial relationship between the first and second stations, assigning antenna weights for an array antenna of the first access point to provide beamforming transmission of the downlink transmission towards the second station and a null towards the second access point, and transmitting the downlink transmission using the antenna weights. Simultaneous uplink and downlink transmission using multiple access points

A method for a primary wireless transmitter is disclosed. The primary wireless transmitter is configured to participate in transmission to a wireless receiver using spatial multiplexing in coordination with one or more secondary wireless transmitters. The method comprises assigning—from a collection of available channel sounding resources—respective channel sounding resources to the primary wireless transmitter and to the one or more secondary wireless transmitters, wherein each available channel sounding resource is assigned to at most one of the wireless transmitters. Each assigned respective channel sounding resource is for transmission of a respective non-spatial-multiplexed first channel sounding signal, and the first channel sounding signals are for phase tracking of signals transmitted by the primary wireless transmitter and/or for phase tracking of signals transmitted by the one or more secondary wireless transmitters. The method also comprises transmitting, to the one or more secondary wireless transmitters, information indicative of the respective channel sounding resources assigned to the one or more secondary wireless transmitters. Methods for the secondary wireless transmitters and the wireless receiver are also disclosed, as well as corresponding apparatuses, transmitter, receiver, access point, user station, control node, and computer program product.

Channel sounding for distributed transmission

A transceiver device includes a controller arranged to identify a first set of control information within the data packet, and to re-map the data packet such that the first set of control information is mapped on bits known to be more robust. The transceiver device further includes a transmitter arranged to transmit the re-mapped data packet. The first set of control information holds information which enables for identification to combine soft bits from repeated transmissions at a receiver of the packet. The bits known to be more robust have more distinct value distribution in signal space of a used modulation and coding scheme than other bits. The transceiver device is arranged to transmit a data packet. A corresponding method, computer program, access point and station are also disclosed.
