A laser resonator is provided that includes a cavity bounded by an end mirror and output coupler, and one or more gain media between the end mirror and output coupler. The laser resonator also includes a modal corrector mirror between the end mirror and output coupler. The modal corrector mirror includes a controllable-profile faceplate including an optically-treated front surface, and an array of static actuators. Each static actuator includes an adjustable element, and a compliant mechanism located between the adjustable element and faceplate. The adjustable element is configured to exert a selectable, localized push-pull force on the faceplate via the compliant mechanism, and the compliant mechanism is configured to scale the respective force.

A system for monitoring an energy beam burn through has a sheet formed of a material approximately transparent to optical radiation at a desired operating wavelength. A light detector is attached to the sheet. A coating is applied to the sheet and the light detector, wherein penetration of the coating by a light source allows the light source to scatter within the sheet. A response unit is coupled to the detector unit for signaling an alarm when the light detector senses the light source of a predetermined level.

A tomographic optical beam irradiance sensor is disclosed. An optical medium receives an incident beam at a plurality of incident points in the optical medium. A first angular optical sensor assembly senses a first set of ray angles and intensities of a plurality of scatter rays emitted from the incident points. A second angular optical sensor assembly senses a second set of ray angles and intensities of the scatter rays emitted from the incident points. A tomography module determines a plurality of locations and intensities of the incident points in the optical medium based on the first set of ray angles and intensities and the second set of ray angles and intensities.

An electronic network filter for classified partitioning in an ATM network. The filter has a classified network buffer for identifying whether data is classified or unclassified to define invalid and valid data packets. Invalid data packets are dropped from the classified network buffer and valid data packets are sent to an unclassified network for testing without interrupting the operation of the classified network. In one embodiment, the classified network buffer is programmable to adapt to the continually changing requirements of classified networks.

Electronic network filter for classified partitioning

The present embodiment provides a system and method for lowering the saturated gain level of a thin-disk laser oscillator by multipassing each gain generator in such a way to cancel some of the wavefront error contributions from the disk surfaces. Wavefront aberrations introduced on one pass of the gain disk are canceled through symmetry on successive passes. The reduced wavefront error significantly improves design space for single-mode resonators. Maximum effectiveness is achieved by rotating the gain disk so that the fold plane-of-symmetry reverses the largest wavefront error or specifically chosen functional forms.
