A ruggedized mounting assembly or bracket and incorporated method and is provided to enhance structural rigidity of a computer environment and provide stability to it during sudden shifts and vibrations. The assembly comprises two intersecting planes. One plane will be disposed on the computer rack at an upper surface while the other plane is to be secured to a surrounding surface such as a ceiling.

Ruggedized mounting assembly and method for stabilizing one or more computer racks

A load balancing method and incorporated assembly is provided for a computer frame having side walls. The assembly comprises a mid-plane plate having top and bottom sides and capable of being secured to the frames inside side walls. The mid-plane plate also has means both on its top and bottom sides for securing a number of electronic books in such a manner that they can be stacked on top of or adjacent to one another. A locking mechanism can also be provided as part of the assembly or alone to further secure the electronic books to the frame.

A mechanism for electrically connecting a first electronic component to a second electronic component includes an actuating member disposed in the first electronic component including a first connector half and an actuation screw having a head and a threaded end. The actuation screw is located in the first electronic component wherein rotation of the actuation screw urges the actuating member in a direction substantially perpendicular to an axis of the actuation screw thereby engaging the first connector half to a second connector half disposed in the second electronic component.

Connector actuation mechanism

A method and incorporated assembly for enhancing structural rigidity of a computer rack used for housing electronic components is provided. In one embodiment, the assembly comprises a casing made of a lighter weight material and having protrusions. The protrusions are formed to receive one or more ruggedized inserts that is made of a heavier and/or stiffer material. The casing and the inserts together can be then used as a ruggedized side of a computer rack or cage.

A mechanism for electrically connecting a first electronic component to a second electronic component. The mechanism includes an actuating member disposed in the first electronic component including a first connector half and an actuation screw having a head and a threaded end. The actuation screw is located in the first electronic component wherein rotation of the actuation screw urges the actuating member in a direction substantially perpendicular to an axis of the actuation screw thereby engaging the first connector half to a second connector half disposed in the second electronic component. A method for electrically connecting a first electronic component to a second electronic component includes rotating an actuation screw disposed in the first electronic component and in operable communication with an actuating member disposed in the first electronic component, the actuating member including a first connector half. The actuating member is urged in a direction substantially perpendicular to an axis of the actuation screw by the rotation of the actuation screw and the first connector half is engaged to a second connector half disposed in the second electronic component.

A method and incorporated assembly is provided for cooling of an electronic device or component. The assembly comprises a thermal duct having a fixed duct portion and a removable duct portion. The portions each have complementary interlocking components to secure them to one another. Also a first attachment block is provided. The first attachment block has complementary interlocking portions with the fixed and removable duct portions such that the block can be secured at least partially to each of the fixed duct portion and the removable duct portion. A second attachment block is also provided that has a complementary interlocking portion with the removable duct portion. This second attachment block can be secured to one or more electronic devices requiring cooling.

An electromagnetic gasket includes a conductive shell having a pair of side walls and end walls extending therefrom defining at least one opening. The pair of side walls and the end walls have at least one outward bias and at least one inward bias positioned thereon for each opening. The outward bias is configured to electrically connect to an inner tailstock of an electrical enclosure. The at least one opening is configured to receive a connector port housing of a corresponding module therein. The at least one inward bias electrically connects the connector port housing to the inner tailstock of the electrical enclosure. Each module is an electrical module or an optical module, and the at least one inward bias and outward bias provide EMC sealing for multiple connector port housings of a plurality of modules having variable dimensions with respect to at least one of the X, Y and Z axis of the connector port housings.

A snap-fit shield is provided which fits securely within a frame opening, and which shields and grounds the opening while eliminating a need for a complementary connector portion. The shield has an insulative inner housing having a first base wall and a first pair of side walls and end walls extending therefrom defining a first cavity. The shield includes a conductive shell having a second base wall and a second pair of side walls and end walls extending therefrom defining a second cavity. The second pair of side walls and end walls have at least one outward bias positioned thereon. The shield also has an insulative outer housing having a third base wall and a third pair of side walls and end walls extending therefrom defining a third cavity. The outer housing is configured to snap-fit within an opening in a frame so as to shield circuitry internal thereto. The third cavity of the outer housing is configured to receive at least a portion of the conductive shield therein, while the second cavity of the conductive shield is configured to receive the inner housing therein.

A light transmission device is provided including a light pipe having two ends, one end being an ellipsoidal-shaped end. A recess is configured within the ellipsoidal-shaped end for reception of a light source that transmits light into the light pipe. The recess includes an interior concave wall, and the light source is at least partially received in the recess to face the interior concave wall via which light is transmitted into the light pipe. The ellipsoidal-shaped end further includes a curved surface configured to facilitate collection of light into the light pipe when the light source is at least partially received in the recess in the ellipsoidal-shaped end. The ellipsoidal-shaped end includes a first focal point and a second focal point, wherein the recess in the ellipsoidal-shaped end intersects the first focal point, and the second focal point is disposed adjacent to or within the light pipe.

A docking apparatus for printed circuit boards including a cassette housing defining a housing cavity for containing a printed circuit board (PCB) and a linkage mechanism associated with the cassette housing. The linkage mechanism includes a linkage arm pivotally connected to the cassette housing via a pivot and has a first arm pivotally connected to the PCB, a traveler having a threaded bore therethrough connected to a second arm extending from the first arm, a shaft threadedly engaged in the left handed threaded bore through the traveler at a first end defining the shaft, the first end configured to operably transfer axial translation of the shaft to the traveler, and an opposite second end defining the shaft threaded engaged in a right handed threaded bore through a split nut operably secured to the cassette housing. The traveler and nut are configured to threadably receive corresponding threads of the shaft for axial translation of the shaft therethrough, wherein rotation of the shaft translates the shaft causing rapid pivotal movement of the linkage arm about the pivot via the traveler and nut, causing translation of the PCB in and out of engagement with a corresponding connector.
