Prior art fuel line check valves remain closed after engine off and cool down. Diurnal heating and the resultant pressure increase in the fuel line causes fuel vapor emissions through small openings in the fuel line (e.g., at the injector tips). The invention provides a check valve for a vehicle fuel line which opens in response to engine cooling and remains open while the engine is off to relieve subsequent increasing pressure in the fuel line due to diurnal heating thereof.

A combination valve for fuel delivery system of a vehicle having an engine, the fuel delivery system being configured to pump fuel to the engine and the fuel delivery system has a regulator for regulating the pressure of the fuel when it is being pumped to the engine by the fuel delivery system, the combination valve comprising: an outer housing defining an inner opening for slidably receiving a body portion of a system pressure relief valve therein, the body portion of the system pressure relief valve defining an inner opening for slidably receiving a body portion of a check valve therein, the body portion of the check valve being configured to provide a first fluid pathway in a first direction when the body portion of the check valve moves from a closed position to an open position as the body portion of the check valve moves in the first direction within the inner opening of the body portion of the system pressure relief valve, the body portion of the system pressure relief valve being configured to provide a second fluid pathway in a second direction when the body portion of the system pressure relief valve moves from a closed position to an open position as the body portion of the system pressure relief valve moves in the second direction within the inner opening of the outer housing, wherein the first direction being opposite to the second direction.

Combination valve for fuel system

A fuel pump module for a fuel tank in a vehicle includes a reservoir adapted to be disposed in the fuel tank and a partition disposed in the reservoir to divide the reservoir into a fuel sensing chamber and a fuel storage chamber. The fuel pump module also includes a conduit conducting return fuel from an engine of the vehicle to the fuel storage chamber of the reservoir. The fuel pump module includes a fuel pump disposed in the reservoir and having an inlet disposed in the fuel sensing chamber and an outlet disposed in the fuel storage chamber. The fuel pump module further includes a fuel usage priority valve to allow fuel from the fuel storage chamber to flow to the fuel sensing chamber to provide the inlet of the fuel pump with fuel from the fuel storage chamber.

Fuel pump module for a fuel tank

A modular fuel reservoir (MFR) including a cup-shaped plastic reservoir and a fuel pressure regulator supported on the reservoir. A fuel pump is supported in a tubular chamber of a retainer on top of the plastic reservoir and includes an exposed metal shell bearing against a wall of the tubular chamber and an electric motor turned on and off through a positive contact terminal and a negative contact terminal on a plastic end housing of the fuel pump. The retainer is made of an electrically conductive polymer and includes a resilient fin bearing against a metal housing of the pressure regulator. Ions stripped from the fuel and collected on the metal housing of the pressure regulator are conducted to the negative terminal on the end housing of the fuel pump through the electrically conductive retainer, the metal shell of the fuel pump, and an internal conductor in the fuel pump between the metal shell and the negative terminal. The wall of the tubular chamber on retainer constitutes a shield around the fuel pump which reduces radiated electrical emissions attributable to commutation in the electric motor of the fuel pump.

Modular fuel reservoir for motor vehicle

A modular fuel delivery system including a reservoir in fuel tank, an electric high pressure pump in the reservoir fed only from inside the reservoir, and a jet pump fed only from the fuel tank and discharging into the reservoir to keep the latter filled and energized from the high pressure pump. A check valve is disposed between the jet pump inlet and the fuel tank to prevent backflow into the fuel tank. A partition on the bottom of the reservoir separates the jet pump discharge from the high pressure pump inlet and defines a standpipe around and above the jet pump discharge so that the jet pump stays submerged in fuel when the high pressure pump empties the reservoir. The pumping efficiency of the jet pump when submerged is better than when dry so that the delay in restarting the engine after the both the fuel tank and the resvoir are pumped empty is minimized.
